I'm about to apply for a retirement visa.  I have a DUI conviction in Thailand about 8 years ago.  Lived here since with no problem.

Will the drink driving conviction invalidate my application as I have a criminal record.  That is my only criminal conviction in any country.

I have had a number of different passports since the conviction, will it still be linked to my current passport if I decide not to declare it.

I am in Thailand and was planning on applying for the O visa conversion, if it's easier I could apply for an OA back in my home country.

To preempt the trolls, I was slightly over limit (two big leos) would have been legal in my home country.  It was a police sting and no chance to pay them off.  Everyone went to jail that night.

I think you are overly scared of a small incident 8 years ago which might have been forgotten a long time ago. I am not an expert on thai law but just basing it on my observation that a lot of dangerous criminals and complete losers are allowed and welcome to enter and stay. Some even come out after spending time in a thai prison and start the border bounce and serial tourist visa routine all over again.

If you apply for a Non ‘O’ visa in the country you don’t have to provide a criminal background check, and questions about convictions aren’t asked.

Thanks for your replies.

As there is a two-week wait between applying for and receiving the conversion from tourist to O visa, I thought maybe immigration did a criminal check in Thailand.  That was based on having to submit a criminal background check if applying for an O/A in my home country.

I'm happy to hear otherwise.  Thanks again.

I think they meant they had only drank 2 Leos, which is pretty much 2 pints of beer.

Sure there's plenty of people that do that and don't think they are over the limit.

The 2 weeks are only for the approval to be done at a higher level (division headquarters). They do not do a background check.

No troll but it certainly sounds from your last paragraph that you are making excuses for your poor decision to drive drunk.

The limit here is 0.05.

However, if you are on a temporary license, suspended license, or no license, it is 0.02.

Probably one large Leo or less.

The other factor is, over What Time Period.  I'd recommend everyone get one of those pocket-blood-alcohol testers - if they are any good.  Or just use taxis (grab-taxis) when going out to drink - easier than hassling with one's own car, anyway.

Yes.  I guess I take it more personally had a family member killed several years back by some guy 3 times the limit.  In the US.

I drink 3 small Leo's maximum when out. I have been pulled into the booth and tested 3 times after 3 small bottles. Every time either 22 or 23 against 50 limit. So quite confident if done fairly.
