Things to Volunteer for

Featured Replies

What are some things to volunteer for locally that don't require a fixed schedule (I can only help sporadically)? I saw a charity that needed English teachers for underpriviliged kids but that isn't a good fit since it requires a regular commitment.

they also require work permits.

No, not a teacher. Would prefer something that isn't consistent or fitting of an official capacity or requirement for a work permit.

Years back, some expats/tourists got done up for picking up rubbish on the beach.

Volunteer actions may not be a wise use of your spare time.

requirement for a work permit.

If it's called volunteer, and involves people other than family, it requires a volunteer permit or something- don't remember the exact word, but they give them at immigration. There is a sign where to stand in the q.

They just want our money, not our labour.

Heard you can get done for watering your garden...

very simple answer here---you can do this anywhere anytime..

picking up rubbish--i dont think you will get much appreciation from thais--but it definitely helps to improve the environment.  i have had  the occasionally "toot" or "thumbs up" from thais, but most look at me like im crazy..

I’m not 100% if it still happens as I don’t go the meetings very often, the PCEC ( Pattaya city expats club) had an arrangement with the education authorities to allow English tutition on a volunteer basis.

The meetings are every Sunday morning at the Holiday Inn and you can get a very decent breakfast , you don’t have to be a member to pop along- but suspect you might have to join to volunteer? Perhaps look at the website?

Otherwise Rotary- not so much volunteering , but they are involved in many decent projects , if you wish to help those less fortunate .

how about being an ATM ?

Last night I observed two tourists that seemed to be volunteering for the job of walking/talking/LDOP Buffalos.

Rid the beach of its rats while enjoying a walk in the night...

Rubbish. As long as it's your own/ family property you can do anything, more or less. When we had floods I was outside the gate digging drains with the council big wigs looking and nothing happened.

However, if one has "annoyed" a local, watering one's own garden might be used as an excuse to be done.

You silly Billy

I do voluntary sex training and make donations to the Issan community on a regular basis. I find it rewarding and so do they.

Well, I believe there are always open volunteer positions for a cuckolded farang

Seems to me you are only qualified to volunteer sperm donations. However I believe you will need to pay a fee even to do this. The real question though would be finding someone who actually wants your help with this and willing to take your donations and time.
