I think that is why cgi was separating Pattaya from the rest of Thailand.  There are plenty of family friendly places still around and anyone going to Pattaya for a family holiday needs their heads examining.  The same with Phuket.  We used to go there from Chiang Mai for a family holiday but never to Patong.

I agree.  The problem is the snickering and gasps of the neighbors when you tell them you took the kids to Thailand on holiday.  I like the place, in spite of not drinking or chasing women for sport.  Thailand is so much more than beer and women and porn and plastic winkies.  But unfortunately, the great places don't make the news like this story and others like it.  And it can take some local knowledge to get from the airport to the great places without getting a big dose of the family repellent parts thrown up in your (and your kids') face.

Pattaya isn't a family resort.  It reminds me more of Shanghai in the twenties when the sailors were in town (I remember it well ) and should come with an adults only warning!

Thailand has some wonderful beaches and great restaurants and a lot of warm and welcoming people.  And then there is Pattaya....

All of the above exist in and around Pattaya, there is more to the place than soi 6/8/10 and Walking Street. Go take a look sometime.

the sooner the coppers get up off their fat a##s and actually walk the beat and stop sitting around counting their tea money the sooner this place will become family friendly and  this <deleted> will go away

Plenty of fun family oriented things to do in Pattaya and easy to avoid the potential bad spots if one has common sense.

This was hardly a "Violent brawl" couple of bitch slaps and a sneaky attempt at a blindsider by a young Thai and everybody on their way again.......more of a scuffle!!

More family orientated things to see and do in Pattaya than Chiang Mai and Phuket put together.

You mean the Las Vegas that saw a huge boom in tourism when they cleaned up and catered to families?  That Las Vegas?

That experiment failed long ago. Now it's "What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas" as their ad campaign. Topless pools, more strip clubs, more high-end pickup nightclubs, more escorts.  It's for adults. Disney World is for families. Each to their own. I've done both.

It didn't fail.  For a while, it was quite successful.  But then the Native Americans opened up gambling casinos all over the country, several other states legalized gambling, and cheap flights to exotic foreign lands with gambling drew away a lot more of their business.   So maybe they had to turn to the mongers again...  They're getting over 40 million visitors a year now...

Still, I doubt they have the dodgy guys on the sidewalks in front of the main casinos flashing photos of naked hookers like they did when I first went there in the '80s.  And like the guys today on Lower Sukhumvit.

In a place with an estimated minimum 2,000 bars there is always the possibility of a problem in one of them.

And minimum possibility of it affecting 99.99% of people there.

True, no dodgy guys handing out hooker ads. Those ads are on top of taxis. And the Indian casinos didn't draw away families as most of those feature nothing but gambling.
