Hi all,

I moved back to the States last year and my wife came on over on her tourist visa and we were legally married in America last Spring.

She returned to work in Thailand and we started the marriage visa process.

Everything has been approved and she has been issued an interview date in early March 2018.

Her police clearance was applied for on November 27, 2017 and issued to her on December 7, 2017. This was done for the application process.

We have checked everywhere and can not find out how long the clearance she has is valid for?????

Can anyone help?

Cheers

I assume a copy of the police certificate was sent with the application.

Looking at this under "Police Certificates" from this page.  https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/the-immigrant-visa-process/collect-and-submit-forms-and-documents-to-the-nvc/step-5-collect-supporting-documents.html

Send a photocopy of your police certificate(s) to NVC.

Bring the original police certificate(s) plus a photocopy to your visa interview at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate.

It appears to me that she can take the original certificate used for the application. I does not appear there is any requirement to have a new one done for the interview.

My bad Ubonjoe. I'm a long time reader and first time poster....thanks!

sam, it's for the final interview for our marriage visa for the US. The I-184 and DS-260 have been approved and she goes for interview at US embassy in 3 weeks.

Update - my wife spoke with police and translation service. Both said it is valid for 90 days, her interview is 91 days after original police clearance, so she must get new one :-(

Not sure about the 90 day thing or the source of the info. I think the embassy would be the best choice to ask about it.

I don't think she needs a new one since the initial approval of her application was done based upon the one she has now. She just needs the original of it for the interview.

It seems as though, you are correct. I was finally able to speak with our attorney and she pointed out this section of the checklist to us. If my wife does not answer "true"  or "yes" to all three questions, then she does not need a new clearance. My wife is calling the embassy now to verify. We were, obviously, not able to do that (or call our attorney) when I posted this question to the forum Friday evening.

I am sure the police said she needed a new one, simply as a standard answer. And possibly to get the "fee"

But, she is calling the US embassy to clarify.

Thanks again for the advice obonjoe....khob khun mak krup!
