Much as I never thought the day would come..... It Done Come .

After 22 great years, the time has come to leave The Pun Pun.   The feeling I have inside could not be any more hurtful if one had lost one of their children.  But father time and he who assigns all health conditions, has knocked on my door, and made me see the ways of time.
If you know of anyone who may be interested in a home/job situation like no other, please have them get in touch with me.

But the reason I put this here is for all the friends and acquaintances I have and have met thru Thai  Visa after all these long years, THANK YOU.   To those who have come by as guests and become friends ....THANK YOU.  ...... and THANK YOU Thai Visa for the hours and hours of back and forth, and banter, and , yes argumentative times as well.  Wishing  you all well and all the best.
Gonzo

  • Pun Pun is a long established restaurant/guesthouse by the river.  The place and its owner will be missed by many long term residents.   Best of luck to you Gonzo, wherever you are heading.

Will be sorry to see you go. Going to miss those great breakfast feasts.

All the Best to You and Yours wherever the wind blows you.

Be Well

Sad to see another long timer leaving.

But understand what your saying

Good Luck

Gonzo, good luck, take care, be happy.

I do not wish to appear heartless. But am a little confused by the post.

Are you leaving Thailand or are you leaving this world, because of your health?

Either way best of luck to you.

Sorry to hear that Gonzo. I'm sure it will be hard to leave after such a long time. Are you leaving just the Pun Pun or leaving Chiang Mai too ?

Wishing you all the best!

You're a first class guy, much respect.

Hopefully you will find someone to take up the reigns. I would, but I have too many irons in the fire I think.

You bloody well do appear heartless!

A more subtle comment like "I am so sorry to read  about your decision to no longer be involved in the "PUN PUN" business.  Do you mind if I ask what are your intentions for the future etc etc"

All the best, see you down the trail.

What is "PUN PUN" ?  I have no clue. Is it a nickname for Thailand ,for life  please some one explain.

I really enjoyed his posts and will miss reading them. Just want to know what he meant and what is going on is that  a problem?

Or is it easier to insult than inform?

Yes some people are just looking to argue. Not the thread for it

Best of luck John, sorry to hear that you're shutting the doors. Always appreciated your posts, almost as much as your food.

Khun Gonzo.

All the best writing and living your next chapter in your Book of Life !

I stumbled upon the Pun Pun a few years ago.  Had some damn fine nosh (That's slang for food for those that don't know)

From the McPlop plop thru to the Fish and Chips ....I enjoyed each meal.

John and Pranee have run a great little set up. I enjoyed the banter/small talk along with some other in depth discussions.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to visit the Pun Pun as much as  I'd have liked.

I know John has had his fair share lately of 'Officials' causing him no end of bureaucratic BS.  Changing licensing rules as to both guesthouse and sale of booze.

Running a business for so long ain't easy when this occurs. Then there was the BS attached to his running of 3 wheeled motorcycle.

I'm sorry to see you go John and hope I can catch up with you before you finally move on to greener pastures.

I hope you and Pranee find a new place to settle...be it here, Myanmar or elsewhere.

Best regards Andy

Inflammatory post removed.

Have you really been there 22 years? I can remember when the Pun Pun was owned by John Moore, who sadly died some years ago and his wife, Dang. Sorry, but I`ve lost all track of time.

If this is the final curtain for the Pun Pun, it will be the end of an era in Chiang Mai.

Gonzo, could you give us a hint to what you will be doing next?

OMG

Sorry to hear this

I will have to come see you soon

But have been recovering from a motor accident last December

You will be missed, if you do not want to be involved

All the best for you next part of your retirement, well earned

Aloha bruddah John...always enjoyed the tasty food and your trivial banter. "May the force be with you."

I'm so sorry to hear this.
And sorry that it has been such a long time since my last visit. I hardly go into town anymore. Only if it's for work.
You really will be missed.

Good luck to you Gonzo. We never met but I always appreciated your contributions to the forum. Be well.

Best wishes, Gonzo.

Best of luck to you Gonzo, wherever you are heading.

Google only gives a guesthouse by the river and 2 restaurants far away from the river.

Is the OP involved with all 3?

No Gonzo is the original guesthouse and restaurant near the river.

It's next to the Embassy Condos.

For some  reason I seem to not be as active with this forum as I once was.   In checking in I was somewhat amazed to see the number and nature of the replies.  To all of you who took the time and effort to make comment and express your kind thoughts and opinions,,,,, a great big THANK YOU.   To answer some of the questions and maybe perceived implications, no I have not been given any date of expected departure, from this life, other than from my own bones telling me that it is closer now than ever before. Its just that now getting older and feeling it, I think that it is time for me to get my better half back over the border to the north so she will at least have the comfort of being able to have her family close by, which is highly restricted here.   Good lord willing I will have enough time to get something set up for her that will greatly help sustain her and her family for their future years.  She is a very special person to me and one of the most naturally gifted people I have ever met in my life.   She  has some very desirable innate abilities to learn and absorb, and she has done just that. Now to get her to a place where she is able to put that into practice.
Our hopes would be to move north to the border where we can still maintain our much valued Thai Social Medical Health programs and still be somewhat freed up of the current governmental restrictions.  Thats another story, but I felt I owed it to somewhat explain to all of you who have been so kind to us over the years.  Again just let me say to all of you, if you know of anyone out there, even if they have preexisting health conditions, and particularly if they are American with their back home health care costs, please contact me or have them do so.  If they can get into the Thai Health care system,  it can literally be a gold mine for them.  I would love to impart that information.  Enough of that .   Once more to all of you....... you are and always will be my friends and the biggest most heartfelt thank you for your support over the years.  THANK YOU

Sounds like you might be heading North ! Best wishes for whatever you decide !
