I have a Toyota Hilux Vigo, which from New did not come with seatbelts for the backseat.

Is it practicable to have them installed?

It's the Vigo with the very uncomfortable bench seat in the back and the small suicide doors.

Has anyone else had them installed? Costs?

They can be installed - the seat belt quite easily, the shoulder harness is harder.

With the seat belt - as you have no factory anchor point,  a 10cm plate under the truck behind the mounting bolt should suffice. Same for the pre-tensioner/retractor.

For the shoulder harness, you will need to figure out where on the roof or the rear corner of the cab you can mount it, where it comes up from the tensioner and crosses over your shoulder.

A look at a truck which comes equipped will give you a good idea.

As it is illegal to carry passengers in that part of a pickup, why would you want to install seatbelts that the factory can't install?

Why is there a padded seat there if not for passengers?

Ask Toyota ? Or take it to your local shade tree mechanic they will know where to source the belts from a truck that came equipped that way.

This was brought up last year just before Songkran.

It was part of the drive to ban passengers from sitting in the tray/bed area.

The government advised at that time that the rear seat was in fact a cargo area and not really a seat.

Perhaps it's there because Toyota manufactures vehicles for export to countries besides Thailand where it may be legal to carry passengers there?

There are no seat belts in the back of a pickup either, doesn't stop people riding there. Do you have conclusive evidence that it's illegal to transport passengers in the rear padded seat of a pickup? If not, why persevere?

So what?  Just because some people sit in the bed doesn't make it legal to do that.

 

The fact that it is illegal to carry passengers in that part of that type of pickup is all the evidence that is needed.  If you don't want to believe it, so be it.

 

If you do not have 'conclusive evidence' that it is legal to carry passengers there, why persevere?  If that space was intended for passengers in Thailand, seatbelts would be fitted by the manufacture as required by law, don't you think?

The type of pickup being discussed here never came with belts, or provision for belts, in that part of the cab.  Sourcing belts isn't a problem, finding belt mounting points that meet safety regulations will be, that is why manufacturers don't fit them.

Last year the government backed down from banning people from riding in the bed/tray area and at the same time they also backed down from banning passengers from sitting in the rear seat of space cabs.

This was (apparently) only postponed, so that it could be enforced properly.

So logically if they are available anywhere, they are available. The OP asked if it was "practical"  looks like it is from the image above. As for mounting points the OP needs to lift up the carpet/mat and have a look. Likewise look under the door jamb plastic.

The OP didn't mention anything other than Thailand, isn't this about a Vigo in Thailand?

 

He actually asked if fitting belts was practicable which it's not if they're not available and mounting points aren't provided.  Having them may be practical though. 

 

Where are rear belts available for that Vigo?  Are there mounting points in the model Vigo he is asking about?

Nothing has be said that contradicts that report in those links so if you can show that it is legal, do so.

Spoke to the dealership today. And they say can not do. Also said if you do, it is possible that insurance wouldn't pay out in an accident because it is a modification.
Or something like to that effect
