i know that sea tran used to have a ferry from chumporn to ko tao . but i believe a storm destroyed thier pier in chumporn. Lomprayah needs some competition. they are borderline abusive to thier captive audience.

Maybe you should contact them, then you will know... They are quite good at replying to customers questions :)

cornishhas been blocked. what i do know is that Lomprayah needs competition on the chumporn to ko tao route. i wonder if they pay the govt to not have this competition. Lomprayah must make money hand over fist

Seatran used to have a service, but they lost their berthing space in Chumphon Paknam. At a similar time that Seatran were going down in their service Lomprayah bought a large piece of land and built their own facility, which was outside of Paknam entrance which used to mean the boats to go at low speed for an extra 20 minutes before they were out of the port area. I expect that Seatran just cannot compete with Lomprayah on that route anymore.

I believe Seatran is actually a large listed company and the passenger operations were rather forgotten about. When they first came in, in about 2003 they were better than the other main service providers in Songserm and Lomprayah. Lomprayah upped their game, and Songserm did to some extent as well. Well they still have one boat a day and are the cheaper option.

yes songserm cheaper option but they only allow 20kg luggage as well as Lomprayah.  and songserm is VERY slow boat ........seems to me sea tran can up thier game and compete with Lomprayah. total monopoly on that route. its crazy

It is crazy, but its difficult to see how they can compete.

Songserm have a new bigger boat for a few years, probably only 20 mins slower than Lomprayah.

sea tran dont care how much luggage u bring. so much more relaxed.  i actually fly to krabi. and go to islands from their on sea tran. versus bus from BKK to islands on lomprayah. i really dislike Lomprayah as a company

I tried Lomprayah once just to see what they are like. I haven't used them since.

I prefer the big car ferries as I like being able to move around, sit up on deck etc.
