The Mother in law

Why do so many guys buy homes for the mother in law.

.

I like my mother in law, respect her even feel a certain degree of love for the woman but i would never part with the kind of money required to purchase a house for her, no way.

 

How many people can really say when they buy the house that they really wanted to, or was there another motive, im sure there are guys here that truly wanted to i dont know.

 

If they had the means to do so do you think they would be out planning a home for you.

my mother in law gave my wife the house we live in   all i did was spend some cash to modernize/upgrade  to make for comfortable living

I have no actual problem with people doing it as its their business however it should only be done if its for reasons of genuinely wanting to not to keep the daughter.

your case is unusual and fantastic, she must love her daughter very much and care about you also.

I assume its a bit hard to not buy them a house after gloating to them how much of a go getter you are on your pension.

My in-laws have never intimated that they want anything from me. The MiL even quietly returned the sinsot to my wife a couple of days after the wedding. And they already have a very nice house which Pa built years ago on a piece of land he bought in central Ubon (for 25,000 Baht!). I generally give them a few thousand to cover expenses when we stay there, but that's it.

Secondly, why the hell would they allow their MIL to ever even contemplate moving in?

 

Some guys here are such suckers and seem to never have heard about putting their foot down and not letting people take the p! ss.

I suspect my MiL buying my truck with her money and putting it in my name will probably do your tiny little head in.

It's a forum and you will get ridiculed for doing something stupid....like buying a house and paying the stipend to your MIL.

It's just a cultural difference. In the West, old people in need either live in their offspring's house or in elder accommodation, with any shortfall in funds made up by pension or the welfare state.

 

In Asia, it is the responsibility of the offspring to care for their parents and in some cases their siblings, family first, no welfare state. Buying houses is part of the process. Never helped me as my wife does not get on with her grasping parents, who never looked after her as a kid, so they will get nothing from us.

I replaced a second hand  tin shed for a proper kitchen and will soon do a bathroom make over. Why? Because I can. They have never asked a thing from me. They also returned sin sot money. Trying to live at their age with no water pressure and a bucket is not on. It's all under the heading of family.

You will find out that in most cases, the guy is well off, and is also a member of the fat, ugly, tattooed, facial haired brigade, who can only get a wife by buying her mother a house as well as his wife and looks after them financially, and is usually about thirty years older than his wife, and is too stupid to understand that it is very likely that his wife is also going to have a Thai boyfriend who he thinks is her brother.

That was very sensible, and the chances are you will all live happily ever after. That is the sort of thing I would have done, but my wifes house was already half built for her and her son and daughter when we met, and her mum and dad and brothers have their own house nearby.

 My wife and I have been married for 4 years and I have bought my MIL 3 items and she never asked for.any of them. She had an old refrigerator and if you opened the door to far, the top hinge pin would come out and the door would fall off. One Saturday, I was at Tesco and they were having a weekend appliance sell. I bought a Panasonic refrigerator and arranged delivery for the following Monday. Well Sunday afternoon, the MIL called my wife and was excited and in tears because Tesco had just delivered it.   Then one time when we went to visit, the FIL was trying to make 1 good fan from parts from a second. So the next week I bought a Sharp floor fan and took it to her. I couldn't understand much of what she was saying but her smile I'll never forget.  Last Summer, I bought a 32" Sharp TV to replace the 20" she had.  I took it to her home set it up and left, while she was visiting a neighbor. Didn't need to see her face to know she would be happy and thankful.

But a lot of the silly old Farangs need to buy the love of their Thai wifes and her family as that is

the only way they will get them.

I am not trying to get at you, but is it not a bit stupid to pay a sin sot in the first place, it is a Thai custom, not yours.

In Korea , where it is considered as Asia, parents buy their children a home to settle in after marriage.
