Commuters asked to avoid Ramkhamhaeng road due to rail extension construction

BANGKOK, 27th February 2018 (NNT) – Citizens are being urged to avoid Ramkhamhaeng Road after traffic congestion markedly increased due to construction of the Orange Line electric train extension which started on February 23.

Commander of the Metropolitan Police, Pol Lt Gen Chanthep Sesavej and Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA), Vice Governor Wittaya Phanmongkol have inspected traffic along Ramkhamhaeng Road in the area of Soi 8 as construction of the Orange Line rail extension began there this month. The line is to connect the Thailand Cultural Center station to Minburi.

Pol Lt Gen Chanthep said today the authorities have been facilitating the traffic flow for several days but acknowledge there patches of heavy congestion persist, especially near bus stops.

He recommended citizens avoid the area and enter Ramkhamhaeng Soi 24 and exit at Soi Taworntawat 1 instead, as it provides a way to reach Rama 9 road, Srinakarin Road and Highway No. 7 without having to pass through the affected area. Other bypasses are available at Ramkhamhaeng Sois 21, 39, 43/1, 53 and 65, providing exits to Praditmanutham road, Ladprao road and Seri Thai road.

Commuters in the area are also asked to give themselves ample time due to the restricted traffic lanes.

My Thai wife has to go that way to get to work. Has added about half an hour to her commute.
