Hiring Myanmar Staff

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am looking to hire a myanmar worker.

I have a 2m registered company with 1 foreigner work permit.

They have a passport and visa but is due to expire at the end of this month.

How do you go about getting a work permit and renewing the visa?

Any reccomended agents on Samui for this.

Thanks

To my knowledge it's little different to employ migrant workers from neighboring countries – Cambodia, Lao, Myanmar – compared to "Western" workers; for the latter you'll normally need 4 Thais employed for an alien Work Permit, besides the 2 million baht registered shareholder capital.

You should be able to get a permission from the Amphor in Nathon, probably your accountant will know how to handle it. We – or rather my Thai GF – got permission for domestic help, and was advised an agent by the Amphor to do all the necessary paperwork, which was quite substantial; cost was around 10,000 baht including all fees, and check-ups (health check), and transportation (to Surat Thani and back). A WP for a migrant worker from a neighboring country is valid for two years. We had a Lao for all together 6 years, so been through the procedure a couple of times, no big deal when using an agent.

The worker need to do 90-day address reports at Samui Immigration. I see some, probably agents, coming with a pile of passport from neighboring countries, presumably migrant construction workers. I got it fixed, so our domestic helper had same term as my own 90-days reporting, so I could just bring her, when I had to go anyway. Samui Immigration charged migrant workers 100 baht for each 90-day report – farangs are free – don't know if that's a norm, and if they still does it.,

Thanks. Was thinking something like that. Do you know any agents? Will check with my accountants anyway in the meantime.
