When I retired and left the UK 11 years ago it was not required to wear a seat belt whilst operating a fork lift truck. However every company operating these trucks could only allow trained operatives to use them - if there were any incidents then drivers and the company were liable to prosecution.

Oops hit the wrong key - finally I must say as a licensed operator of a reach truck it is very difficult to turn one of these trucks over if you follow the rules. No, I don't think that the operators in Thailand have adequate training, probably none at all.

Just looking at what looks to be a home made bucket on the front I'd say the forklift was being used as a front end loader, forklifts are flat level floor machines, they are not meant to be driven up onto mounds of sawdust with a full "bucket", the end result will be this.

Bingo! Thai style.

Speeding whilst taking a turn more like - whilst probably smoking a fag, drinking a coffee and posting what a great day he was having on his fb account !

He was using it as a bulldozer to scoop up the sawdust, he has driven up the mound of sawdust which is clearly not stable leading to it tipping sidewards. Many counterbalance trucks such as this won't operate unless the seatbelt is fastened but here in Thailand they fasten the seatbelt behind them.

If he had his seat belt, unable to jump out, he'd most likely be alive and well!

And why is a Boiler operator driving a Fork lift.

Because it looks like part of his job was to use the forklift to load fuel onto the boiler ?

yep.  home made bucket attachment up front.  Unstable platform, Lifted the bucket too high, possibly not very skilled or experienced a driver, and other things, the confluence of which results in this death
