Denied for appointment at special clinic Chula hospital

Hi All

Needed to see a gynecologist regarding chocolate cyst (previously diagnosed by Samrong general hospital). Contacted special hours clinic Chula hospital through a Thai friend. They replied that foreigners can not be treated there. I saw many posts here mentioning about seeing doctor for 400+ baht at that place. What am I missing?

This is utterly untrue. Go in person yourself, register ion the ground floor then go up to the 13th floor at around 3-3:30 PM to schedule appointment.

 

Both the public channel and private after hours clinic at Chula treat everyone, Thai and foreign.

 

P.S. How exactly did your  Thai friend contact them, and who exactly did he speak with? I have never known anyone to get through to the after hours clinic on the phone...

I went a few times to Chula. My wife helped me register.

 

To be honest, wasn't impressed. Misdiagnosis galore. I don't know what's the big deal with that hospital.

Like any hospital, it is as good or bad as the doctor you consult. Choice of doctor is paramount.  There are some world class ones among their senior faculty but you have to know who to ask for.

You also need to be treated by that doctor - most treatment is by a team under various doctors.  The night pay clinic is designed to provide access to specific doctors I believe (have not used) but they also had another set up in a residence building years ago for direct access to specific doctors at a higher fee so there might be several systems in play.  What foreigners seem to look for is the night clinic on 13th floor of the old main building where registration is made.  It can be a nightmare without Thai ability so not for everyone.

Thanks all for sharing your views and experiences. I heard that Chula gynecology dept is one of the best in the country. Most of the doctors are also working at bamrungrad , BNH and other hospitals. This is why i was interested. But was unware about only thai registration process. Would appreciate some opinions on how to do the registration easily to see the doctor.

Visit with a Thai who can help you do the registration at the least.  It should not be impossible to do yourself but much easier if with a Thai speaker.  Be aware not all civil servants find it enjoyable serving the public.  Believe it has improved, as most places have, but still a chance of honest, and not so honest, miscommunications.

The registration is not limited to Thais. It is just that the forms are all in Thai. Bring a Thai speaker (who also reads Thai) with you to help.

in late 2017, I went there at 3.30 pm to register and hopefully see a specialist (neurologist) the same day or next and was offered an appointment 2 months later. And yes, if you cannot speak Thai it is pretty much useless

Indeed if a queue is required it can be excessive but believe the night clinic avoids long queue (but perhaps not if further attention required/such as operation and services offered may be limited) - my experience was at a different government hospital where initial 10 weeks to operation ended with operation canceled, with me on table, due no available ICU room and after hours of trying to get an answer only told would be 3-5 months wait.  I had operation at private hospital the next week.

Thanks for your response. 2 months? That is a long wait. I thought the regular hour visit was taking that much to get appointment. Lets see how long we have to wait.

Hi everyone

 

Went there yesterday. Wanted to share my experience. Sunday morning at 8.20. The counters were nearly empty. There is a counter named International Service, so they can guide you if you cannot speak Thai. For registration they have an English form and photocopy of your passport info page and visa page is required. This info is also displayed in English on every registration counter. You have to register the day you first see your doctor but you can get appointment. Our chosen doctors nearest appointment was after a month but the counter lady is so helpful she suggested that there is a prof available the next day in the same field. So we will visit today and will share the views.  I think the place is helpful and if you opt to see doctor in after hour clinic should not be a problem.

Thank you for this feedback, seems things have improved a lot. Where are these counters located?

The old tall building, of you enter from BTS saladang the first tall building . The name is por por something i cannot remember. The counters are on ground floor of that building. May be it was sunday so not much people there.
