13 kinds of smiles? LOL. Sure, it's a nicely written article, but it's all fantasy....and makes me wonder if you've ever set foot in Thailand.

Only here for 24 years, and if you think it is a fantasy article, do a google if you know how to use it and you will discover that it isn't a fantasy and there are plenty similar articles from different authors.

What these sanctimonious Thais on the net don't realise is how many foreigners' eyes "pop out" at the BS they see everyday everywhere here carried out by the locals too. Sure, the tourist is a moron...but then we see some Thai shoot someone for just disrespecting them or talking to their girlfriend too often. Pfft...idiots. Have a look in the mirror first.

Arrest her! Fine? A few thousand baht.

Not the end of the world. Photos of  her down at the station with a few wais

to the abbot of the watt would be a good teaching moment spread through social media channels as advice for those who travel to Thailand from abroad.

Most tourists, though they are common, have no common sense.

Nothing sanctimonious at all. It's a, holy site. In the Islamic world she would be whipped in the UK arrested immediately and, charged appropriatly. Utterly innaporiate behavior by ignoramuses

What these sanctimonious posters on TVF don't realize is how Thais' eyes "pop out" at the BS they see everyday everywhere here carried out by the locals too. Sure, the tourist is a moron...but then they see some Thai shoot someone for just disrespecting them or talking to their girlfriend too often. Pfft...idiots. Besides duly looking in the mirror, however, and overcrowding prisons, they also notice the BS they see everyday everywhere here carried out by the tourists too. Or are they not allowed to do that by our sanctimonious posters? Nor do they have to correct ALL the BS in their own backyard before they correct some of the tourists' BS in their backard, as the tourist will always engage in whataboutism to escape punishment while ignoring the uncorrected BS in his own country carried out by his own countrymen.

Another tourists there don't respect anything properly from Russia because there are signs where that say the rules in thai and English

Yes.  One is the language of the world and one of this country. Presumably they had read guide books in Russian before arriving. Presumably they would not pose like that in Russian  churches.

Despicable? No, not really.

Stupid and culturally insensitive? Certainly.

Thailand, the answer is simple. If you do not want to see culturally-insensitive actions, then close the sights and lose the revenue/monies.

Easy. And no more outrage.

This is a very intelligent piece of advice.

The WOW factor has broken all records!

Awaiting more similar advice.

Thank you.

Tourists want photos of themselves visiting the sites.  Maybe if the temples have such religious and cultural significance and the Thais are so sensitive about it they should just not let any foreign non Bhuddist people in at all.  Problem solved.  The photo probably just showed a flash of panties any way.  And the guy who took the photo should have shown  bit of class and not taken the picture.

Wouldn't it be better if tourists are more respectful of the host country?

Instead of the photographer, wouldn't it be better if the tourist showed 'bit of class'?

Is there any country where the citizens go half naked or showing off their 'assets' in religious places? Aren't these habits taught in civilized countries at school?

Just thinking...

That's tourists......unlike their own precious traditions, those of the rest of the world aren't "serious".

They don't really have an interest in what is around them....everywhere else is just a "location" wherein they can arrange and admire themselves.

The indigenous architecture, objects and people merely sets, props and extras.

you nailed it!..

it's the species called "the human" with lots of flaws and it recently started visiting other humans half way around the world with cultures, traditions and religions much different than theirs.

Each group wants to be different than the other (a typical human behavior) therefore creating a complex world with thousands of different rules and points of respect, impossible to remember or follow.

In a Scandinavian country, a naked Jacuzzi party among strangers could be as normal as brushing your teeth in the morning, while in some countries it's the cause of a massacre.

next topic please!

The smaller picture insert says it all - according to Thais.

I - for one - would have NEVER interpreted that sign as a „not sit into a window or on a threshold“.

But it is like everything else, they want the tourists money and apply Thai-style to everything. Go to Chom Thian, Jomtien, Hat Jomthian, Jomein, Jom Tien or Chomtien beach and you end up on the same place. Correct English spelling of Pattaya would more accurately read „Pattyea“.

What surprises me among this complete visa mess and the ongoing bashing of those tourists is - why on earth are they still coming?

Still a bit cheaper than the equivalent holiday would cost in Singapore, Hong Kong, Korea, Beijing etc......

Absolutely.  The hypocrisy is mind boggling.
