Lucky if you are from the UK; you can make contributions and later get your pension. Not so lucky if you are Australian though..there is no system like that for us.

I'm in Oz for a holiday, just told my sister who is a Oz/UK citizen now. She can't get it as she hasn't paid 10 years.

Can't Australians make voluntary contributions when abroad?

I thought Class 2 was only for self employed, not if you are working abroad.

I have always had to pay Class 3 but haven't paid for maybe 4 years now.

I also thought you could only back pay 5 years?

Get in touch, I saved a lot by only paying class 2. It would have been about 300,000 baht a few years ago, rather than 65,000 baht.

I'm already registered with them as a Class 3 payer

It seems the OZ pension is based on residency only. I could go home and live on the dole for 20 years and then get my pension. Of course I'd rather work (and I'd have to go NOW and work until retirement), but considering I'd lose 35+% in tax and the high cost of living, I may as well stay here and save/invest money for my retirement.
