LIMA (Reuters) - Peru's new President Martin Vizcarra urged justice officials on Friday to act swiftly and join him in a fight against corruption "at any cost," two days after his predecessor was toppled by a sprawling graft scandal.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States on Friday charged and sanctioned nine Iranians and an Iranian company for attempting to hack into hundreds of universities worldwide, dozens of companies and parts of the U.S. government, including its main energy regulator, on behalf of Tehran's government.

BEIRUT (Reuters) - Syrian rebels left one besieged enclave on Friday and agreed to abandon another, leaving only the city of Douma still in insurgent hands in eastern Ghouta after a month-long army assault to drive them from the stronghold near Damascus.

WASHINGTON/BEIJING (Reuters) - A U.S. Navy destroyer carried out a "freedom of navigation" operation on Friday, coming within 12 nautical miles of an artificial island built by China in the South China Sea, U.S. officials told Reuters.

MELBOURNE (Reuters) - All but six of more than 150 short-finned pilot whales that stranded themselves on a beach in Western Australia have died, despite efforts from authorities and local beachgoers to save them, officials said on Saturday.

PHUKET: The International Surf Lifesaving Association has issued a resolution to formally request the US Department of State to issue a “Level Three Advisory” warning American tourists of the dangers of swimming in Phuket without trained lifeguards on the beaches.

Commerce to petition US for tax exemption

The Ministry of Commerce is now working with the private sector to petition for tariff exemption after US President Donald Trump invoked Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962 to impose new tariffs of 25 percent on imports of steel and 10 percent on imports of aluminum.
