"Something" has been decimating our guppy population. I was assuming birds but madam tells me she saw a small snake leaving the area of the pond, unfortunately her description doesn't match anything I can reasonably think of being here in northern BKK.

Thoughts anyone, whatever it is is leaving the carp alone, at least for now.

We have had several "water snakes" over the years coming from some where and try to live around our pond to eat the guppies.   Our pond it tiled and  the water clear, so I would just wade in, net them, and then take them to a near by klong and release them.

I don't know if it made a difference, but once the koi got some 9 inches long or so, no snakes.

Excellent!!

Madam has just identified him as a striped keelback https://www.thailandsnakes.com/snake-id-reader-submissions/thailand-snake-photos-striped-keelback/

The guppies breed fast enough that they will re-populate once he gets bored. I was just concerned to ensure he wasn't going to be a hazard to the dogs etc.

easy way to catch them is,put a night line out with a size 12 fish hook.this worked for a member about 5yrs.ago.

make sure the line is about 25lb.breaking strain or make up a wire trace.

I often see them (keelbacks) in the rice paddies when on my walks. Quite amazing how once  capturing the fish broadside can get it orientated head first for the swallow
