Korat places 10th district under rabies watch

Another district in Nakhon Ratchasima was on Monday declared a rabies-control zone, raising the number to 10.

The Livestock Development Office in Khong district declared the rabies-control area after two dogs that died there tested positive for the disease.

The nine districts already designated are Muang, Bua Lai, Sida, Kham, Sakae Saeng, Kham Thalay Sor, Ban Luam, Soengsang, None Sung and Chakkaraj.

In Khong, 90 of 140 stray dogs were vaccinated in seven villages near the locations where the two infected dogs were found.

Provincial governor Wichian Chantharanothai said a survey found 400,000 dogs and 120,000 cats in 32 districts, and all would be vaccinated by next month.

So why is the rabies still spreading? Maybe some animals are biting other neighbouring animals, who

then run off to spread the disease further? Just wondering.
