A hunt is on for a man who stabbed a taxi driver to death near the exit of a popular northern Bangkok market in the early hours of Monday morning.

Video footage obtained by Sanook showed two men arguing. One appears to go for something in his pocket before the other hits him with his fists and the pair fall out of view.

Bang Khen police, rescue and forensics attended the scene near exit two of the Ying Charoen market on Pahonyothin Road, Don Meuang side.

There they found the body of 44 year old Sarawut Tangpanyasak who lived in Soi 54/1 in Sai Mai.

Dressed in a blue taxi driver's outfit he was found face up in a pool of blood with stab wounds to the back of his head and back.

Some way away was his yellow and green Toyota Altis taxi with the engine running.

A female trader told the police that she saw the driver - who was well known in the area - arguing with a man aged about 25-30. After a fist fight broke out the other man produced a weapon.

He fled in a Nissan car. He was about 170 cms tall with short hair wearing a green shirt and shorts.

Daily News said there was no indication as yet why the two men were arguing.
