Heroic Pet Saves Disabled Master from Deadly Creature

Sorry about the headline.  The story:

Last night my German Shepherd cross prevented what could have been a very nasty, painful, experience for me.

Blue, so named because his coloring reminds me of an Australian Blue Heeler, is a large, friendly, very intelligent mate.

He understands many words and commands and usually responds immediately. Generally he sleeps in a corner of the bedroom.

I was returning from the bathroom In the early hours this morning when he stood in the area near my bed where I normally park the wheelchair, and refused to move despite me yelling at him to get to his corner. He would normally never go into my part of the room.

When I tried to push him away he sat down, still in my way. I turned on a light, just in time to see a monster centipede scuttle out from underneath Blue and head under the bed. He had put his own body in the way to protect me! There was a very good chance I would have stepped on the thing if not for him. It was probably the biggest centipede I've seen in Thailand, long and fat.

For the next few minutes, while the creature was sweep out from under the bed and battered into submission, it was almost as chaotic as when the 4' cobra came into the lounge a couple of years ago. The result for the intruders was similar.

Blue is on the receiving end of many extra pats today.
