Animals at Bangkok's Dusit Zoo keep cool with frozen treats during the hot summer weather.

Among the measures being used to lower the temperature of the animals are:

1. Water sprinklers are turned on daily for about two hours at the display areas of tigers, bears, antelopes and serows.

2. Elephants are allowed to bathe in water at display areas daily.

3. Frozen fruits and fruity blocks of ice are given to capybara (the largest rodent in the world), crab-eating macaques, chimpanzees and bears.

4. Water vapour devices are turned on at the display areas of hornbills and chimpanzees.

5. Shades are added at various spots around the zoo and staff occasionally spray water around to improve humidity.

6. Zoo staff monitor for any animal falling sick due to the hot weather.
