Report CP Foods Thrives with 134% Profit Rise in 2025
For pigs, CP Foods built a high-tech Smart Pig ecosystem — sensors, biosecurity gates, automated feed control — to prevent ASF and maximize output. For humans, the “system” could be much simpler: adjust the food itself. Reducing salt, sugar, unhealthy fats, and promoting balanced, nutrient-rich meals could cut the long-term health footprint at a fraction of the cost of chronic disease. But the profit incentive isn’t aligned — indulgent, processed products often sell more — and the effects aren’t immediate. Unlike ASF in pigs, the human health impact builds slowly over years. So while the technology for pigs is futuristic and proactive, the strategy for humans stays reactive and low-tech — leaving the healthcare system to pick up the bill. -

Seatbelts
I often wondered why Thais do not wear seatbelts. It just takes a few seconds to put them on. I had never been in an accident until last week, despite having driven since 1968. Lucky, my Thai wife adjusted to the law over here (OZ), and I guess it saved our lives. A car went right through a stop sign and hit us head-on. The car (ours) was a write-off, but the seatbelts saved us from going through the windscreen. Why do Thais not understand that? Every time I am in LOS, I am the only one who wears a seatbelt and my wife. So why can't Thais wear a seatbelt?- 1

Truevisions loses EPL
No joy, I'm afraid. Googling "TV Passport" doesn't, in my case, produce anything resembling "TV Schedule for Premier League TV" to click on, unfortunately. Presumably matchday punditry will still commence 1 hour before kick-off, in which case no problem there. However the other shows of particular interest to me are "Team Talks" shown on Saturday and the 90-minute round-up programme usually hosted by Mark Pougach on Mondays. Will just have to take pot luck on their timings, I suppose. -

Medicare vs Tricare
First 5 years we lived in Thailand, there was no Tricare for Life. Then, boom, 2001. Given the current state of affairs in the US, I can't imagine the same thing happening today. TRICARE for Life (TFL) was created by Congress in 2001 through the Fiscal 2001 National Defense Authorization Act. While a collaborative effort across various branches of government was involved in enacting the program, key individuals played instrumental roles: Senator John Warner (R-Va.): As Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, he was a central figure in the legislative process. Representative Steve Buyer (R-Ind.): As Chairman of the House Armed Services military personnel subcommittee, he also played a key role in the creation of TFL. Their efforts, combined with strong bipartisan support and pressure from military associations, ultimately led to the creation of TFL as a mandatory entitlement, ensuring lifetime healthcare for Medicare-eligible military retirees. -
