Video: Aerial footage of new roads as Songkran exodus picks up steam

Thai Rath showed aerial footage as the annual exodus to the countryside that is a feature of the country's Songkran celebration began in earnest.

Taken during the day on Wednesday by helicopter the footage showed the tunnel area connecting Khao Yai and Thap Lan heritage sites.

Routes featured were 304 and the Friendship (Mitraphap) Highway.

Thai Rath said that the traffic would be dense come evening.

A new highway is being constructed that will connect Isaan (north east Thailand) with the starting point near Bang Pa-in north of Bangkok.

Yes put a roof on a road then tell people it will improve traffic.  Do you think we are stupid.

At least it's out of the sun.

With a 90 kph limit. And endless tolls.

I drove through that area a few months ago and I could see no valid reason for the 'tunnels'  - certainly no danger of avalanches and adjacent slopes didn't appear to pose threats of rock falls or mudslides.

It's getting harder to skim billions off a normal highway project...

Throw a useless roof into the equation and confusion returns, aiding the brown envelope distribution !!!

Am I the only one who have read that the tunnel roofs will be covered with soil, so that the wildlife can pass over the highway?

Likely at the elevated highway the wildlife can pass under the highway.

No i mentioned it in an other topic but most people on here don't let facts get in the way of a good Thai bash.
