Vietnamese woman arrested as alleged member of pickpocket gang

Tourist police have arrested a Vietnamese woman for allegedly being an accomplice of a gang that pickpocketed Songkran revellers in Bangkok, deputy police chief Pol Maj-General Surachet Hakpal said early on Thursday.

 

Surachet said Tran Thi Thu Ha, 45, was arrested at an apartment in Bangkok’s Din Daeng district on Wednesday.

 

Surachet said her arrest followed the arrests of a Vietnamese man and two Cambodians on Monday on charge of pickpocketing on Khao San Road during the Songkran festival.

 

Police seized 13 iPhones, one wallet and 19 foreign banknotes worth Bt500,000 from the gang, Surachet said.

 

Surachet said the Vietnamese woman had admitted to being in charge of the stolen valuables, before they could sell the items at pawnshops and share the money.

Why is cop with finger on mouth smiling must know something the others don't, maybe like how much they really recovered in stolen property just a thought

Vietnamese pickpocket gangs are considered to be the most skillful and best organized in Asia.  They are known for working international mega-events like rock concerts with big name stars.  When the huge Madonna concert was held in Bangkok in 2015, police had a special taskforce dedicated to tracking and arresting several Vietnamese pick-pocket gangs working the show and caught a bunch of them.
