Of course in a perfect world young nubile girls should be able to do such things and all taxi drivers would act like complete gentlemen, all of the time.

Doesn't need to be a perfect world for that, just civilized would suffice.

This is the kind of story I hate reading as my girlfriend doesn’t get off work until midnight and has to rely on taxis to get home.  On occasion, she ends up with a “creepy” (for lack of a better word) taxi driver and is visibly shaken when she gets home.  I’m far from being one of the SJWs on Thaivisa and sometimes I agree that women need to be more careful/aware of their surroundings/etc.  But what should my girlfriend do in this situation?  Be less attractive?  Wear a bhurka?

I have gone as far as offering to come to her work and escort her home but she won’t have that as she knows that I don’t live here full time due to having to care for my elderly father back in the states on a shared rotation with my brother.

Well that's just wierd!  Is someone or  anyone supposed to know the taxi before booking a ride?  I didn't read that she was sh*tfaced but had a few drinks.  Alone?  Yeah everyone has to travel with a companion to avoid being molested/raped.  Get real. Riding trains in Bangkok I've seen numerous people doze off on their way home after work.  Maybe they've been awake since pre dawn. Are they displaying poor judgement and just asking to be robbed and molested by your standards?  A potential rapist/thieving taxi driver needs to be dealt with harshly.

This is not London or New York, the subject of the article in the OP has been well known by almost everyone since time began, ask ANY Thai female over the age of 18.

This is not about whether the taxi driver should be dealt with or not, he should. But people need to use better judgement than what the lady in the OP showed. And yes, she could have managed her ride home more safely.

An off topic post about taxi rape cases in the USA has been removed.

My post was to show that this problem is not exclusive to Thailand as the above poster insinuated.
