2015 Suzuki Swift GLX Spare Key

Featured Replies

I have a 2015 Suzuki Swift GLX. I know that the spare key is not programmed but if I lose my original smart key how do I use the spare metal key to start the car?  Where is the ignition?
Is it possible that the spare metal key can only be used to open the door but cannot start the car?

Yes it came with two "keys" the first is a smart key and is programmed and has worked perfectly. The second looks the same but is not prorammed, Suzuki wants 6900 Baht to program.

The second key has a old type metal key whick can open the door but I cannot find any ignition to insert the key.

It doesn't make sense to have a spare key that can only open the door. 2014 models and older had an ignition slot so the spare metal key was usable.

I almost seems that somewhere there should be a hidden ignition slot for the key.

Try putting it in park, put your foot on the break and push the start button with the tip of the spare smart key...

I just tried that but no response. I guess because the spare key is not programmed.

I spent the last few hours on Google and YouTube and have had no luck. Apparently the mechanical spare key can only be used to open the passenger door in case of emergency.

In kind of upsets me that Suzuki didn't program the second key as it only takes a minute with the right equipment. And worse didn't advise that the spare key as is happens to be worthless in an emergency.

I am just glad I found all of this out before a lost or stolen key.

You might google locksmith, they might be able to program the spare a little cheaper.

It does seem pretty chickenshit that Suzuki would not program it free.

Thanks for your help Mogandave. I would suggest all auto owners with smart keys to check IF their spare key will actually work for them. It may need to be programmed like Suzuki.

Final Update: Daughter took car to locksmith in Korat and had extra key programmed for 1019 Baht - Suzuki quoted 6900 Baht and random locksmith quoted 400 Baht.

Apparently the mechanical key that is in the smart key case is only for unlocking the drivers door in the event the your smart key battery died. So you can use the mechanical key to enter the car and the you can press the smart key on the start button to start the car.

So best for all to check spare key now before original lost or stolen to ensure that it is usable. And if you have to get it programmed check around for prices.

Pleased that you got it sorted in the end, however I am amazed that they only gave you one automatic key, because I got two with mine, and both are programmed to work.

Also I don't recall seeing an ignition slot anywhere on mine, and it is a 2012 model, so perhaps I should look again just in case it is needed in the future!

On a bit of a tangent, but I just looked at the new Suzuki Swift and it didn't impress me much vis-a-vis the old one, so I won't be changing any time soon – – and anyway I always said that this new car would be the last one I bought before I departed this mortal coil, which I hope is quite a few years away yet!!

That Swift is a good looking unit. I almost bought one when they come out, kind of wish I had now.

I have been extremely happy with it...……..good looks, peppy little engine, great road-holding, quiet, reliable and good cabin space and layout, although the "boot" room could be a little bigger, and great service from the Suzuki team in Phuket.

Tried the rest and chose the best (IMO)!

What model do you have?

The GLX, Doh!

No probs Mogandave……….I have the top model, so if it is the GLX, then that's it!

And for the record I didn't see enough "extra" in the new model to excite me one bit????

I’ve bought cars and wished I’d of gotten something nicer, but I’ve never bought a car and wished I’d have gotten a cheaper model...
