The Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) has fined one of its partners over fire in a bus that caused a public scare on Tuesday.

The fire did not cause any casualties as the bus conductor and driver managed to evacuate all passengers in atime.

The bus belongs to Pornpin Transport Co Ltd, which has joined the BMTA in providing bus services in Bangkok.

“The firm’s owner has admitted to negligence for not ensuring that technicians carefully checked the vehicle before it went out to pick up passengers,” the BMTA said yesterday.

The BMTA imposed the maximum fine of Bt5,000 on Pornpin Transport and removed the problematic bus from the list of vehicles qualified to provide transport services.

Bus driver Adul Seeta said he had tried to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher cylinder but the blaze was too strong.

Wow, THB 5000!  That will teach them a lesson.  I bet they won't let a bus out on the road without a safety inspection from now on.  But why did they have to remove the bus from service?  Seems like the charred hull would make fine public transport suitable for Bangkok's urban landscape.

The firm's owner has admitted to negligence etc ....

Is that a first time event for LOS ?

The insurance company may be delighted to hear that.

The bus post the fire was/is a charred wreck.

Don't think it ever could have been put back into service, regardless.  Although, this being Thailand.... :1zgarz5:

Meanwhile, how about inspecting the other buses in Pornpin's obviously finely maintained fleet????  Naaaaahhhhhhh.... :w00t:
