Grab Bike vs Win...... doesn't the passenger have the right to pay 28 baht instead of 120?

A passenger who ordered Grab Bike instead of the registered "Win" motorcycle rank service outside her office has posed a pertinent question online:

Don't I have the right to choose?

The choice, said Sarawan Weerawat, was to go with Grab for 28 baht or use the "win" for 120 baht.

She made the statement as a video was recorded of a turf war altercation that happened outside her place of work at the Sathorn City Tower in Sathorn, Bangkok.

She wanted to make a journey to Yaowarat and had been quoted a much lower price than the "standard" cost of Win. She questioned whether that was really standard or just a rip off.

Trouble broke out between the riders.

Reporters went to Sathorn Soi 7 to talk to the head of the rank yesterday. "See" said that the passenger knew full well that she should not arrange to meet Grab at that point.

She should have met the rider around the corner out of sight to avoid trouble, he said.

Riders at the rank argued that they were fully registered by the authorities to provide a guaranteed service.

But as to the question of price and the choice of the public - they did not have a credible answer to that.

with any kind of service industry the customer always has the right of choice especially with a quoted price provided is that the price in this case is not just the pick up but includes the whole trip .

This is the issue. The customer has every right to choose who they wish to travel with, and to choose the most cost efficient option.

Never had a problem with the bkk motor taxi guys, but when the prices are 4x more expensive than the competition I know which am gonna choose next time

I agree that many of those motorcycle taxis are trying to over charge you. BUT it's a regulated market and those motorcycle taxis are registered and have had to pay to get their spot, then GRAB comes and take their livelihood away. Just look at NY, where the a taxi shield used to be wort something but with UBER and other apps the taxi industry is dying. All because of the greed of app developers and people that don't want to pay a fair price!

a fair price is 25baht, people have a right to choose, as for paying for their spot - to who exactly ?, if they don't like it they can always work for GRAB were the price is in fact regulated.

at 2017 Christmas and NY eve in pattaya they decided it was a good idea to put the minimum fair up to 120baht from 25baht - they really did themselves no favours with that one

They get a 15baht tip from me every time and it is still not enough

This also used to happen in Europe when UBER started their operation. The local taxi crooks in many European cities started to fight withe the Uber drivers, block UBER drivers on the roads, pull them out from their cars etc...

I always make it a point when in the airport anywhere in the world to call the UBER driver and meet him at a point a bit away from the local taxi cheats.

Same in town, when departing from a club or restaurant, you always have the official taxi vultures in front. We plainly walk a bit away and have the driver meet us there. This works fine in Europe and should do the trick in Thailand.

Ride for less is a  ride for safety - don't drink/drugs and drive.

So, if you give us competition we will beat you up! Seems like a good mafia method for mentally ill people that offers a service at too high cost.

Grab Bike from Sathorn City Tower to Yaowarat for B28?  Something sounds wrong with that claim.
