Report Philippine Army Probes Hazing Death of Rookie Soldier

This sombre event has prompted immediate action, with two officers relieved of their duties and investigations launched against 21 others. Private Patigayon's untimely demise occurred shortly after his welcoming ceremony at the 6th Infantry Battalion headquarters on 30th July. The 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division reported that he collapsed during the event, and despite being rushed to the hospital, he was declared dead the following day. In response, the Philippine Army has taken resolute measures by relieving a first lieutenant and a second lieutenant, who were directly supervising Patigayon, from their posts. Army spokesperson Col. Louie Dema-ala confirmed this decisive action, emphasising the Army's firm stand against hazing, in accordance with the Anti-Hazing Act of 2018. Dema-ala reiterated the Army's commitment to a zero-tolerance policy on hazing and similar practices that endanger soldiers' well-being. "The individuals involved in the incident have been immediately relieved of their duties and are currently under investigation," he noted, assuring that those found guilty will face strict penalties under military justice and relevant laws. The investigation, still ongoing, aims to establish the exact circumstances surrounding Patigayon’s death. While initial medical findings indicate kidney failure as the cause, the Army is scrutinising all potential factors. Interestingly, Lieutenant Colonel Roden Orbon mentioned that a blood clot might have led to Patigayon's collapse, showing that multiple angles are being explored. In addressing the tragic consequences of this incident, the Army has vowed to provide full support to Patigayon's family. "While no form of compensation can ever replace the life of a soldier, we are committed to honouring Pvt. Patigayon’s service and to easing the burden on his loved ones," Dema-ala stated, underscoring the Army's dedication to pursuing justice. The Army's actions reflect a broader commitment to safeguarding the health and safety of all its personnel. Who likes to cook?
Cook a lot when 'back home' but in Thailand it's a real case of "if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen". Too damn hot here. Plus I like things that aren't so easily available in Thailand or are really expensive (sausages for toad in the hole; streaky bacon for flavour in risotto; swede; leeks in a cheese sauce mmmm) ... One good thing about cooking in Thailand is that it's still mostly gas; UK and most other western countries are moving to electric for everything. I hate those f##king induction hobs; gas is so much more controllable (although electric ovens are good). -
