An Indian engineer crashed his Toyota Altis sedan into a Lotus Express minimart in Ang Thong province on Saturday night, as he reportedly mistook the acceleration pad for the brake when someone suddenly cut in front of his vehicle, Pol Captain Chakkri Phan-et of Muang Ang Thong said.

As police went to inspect the scene at the minimart on Ang Thong-Pamok Road in Tambon Phosa, they found the sedan still stuck to the front of minimart. A nearby noodle-selling cart was also damaged in the crash. A noodle shop worker sustained burns when boiling water spilled.

The Indian, Rajesh Kumar Singh, who works at a Thai Rayon PCL factory nearby and was uninjured in the crash, waited for police to arrive at the scene.

Singh told police that someone suddenly cut in front of his vehicle so he tried to hit the brake but, in the moment of panic, hit the acceleration pad instead, sending the sedan crashing into the roadside noodle stall and minimart.

Noodle stall owner Bang-on Nahom said fortunately there no customers at the time. But the crashing sedan hit a noodle pot with boiling water, which injured a worker.

I hate it when the GO pedal and the NO GO pedal are not clearly lit up in appropriate colors.  Did he work for Thai Rayon or Thai Crayon?

I can sympathize a bit.  I had problems when I was young until I learned to throw the empty beer cans on the passenger side of the transmission tunnel so they wouldn't jam the pedals.  Had to buy a pickup truck with the little back "camper" window so's I could chuck them out into the bed.

Unfortunately, it turns those noodles contained rare mushrooms that grow only once every 100 years. The damage should be around a million baht. And yes, 500 kyats for the injured worker.

You'd think an engineer could tell the difference between two differently shaped pedals.

Not when in panic mode. He is obviously no good at multi-tasking - driving and thinking.
