Chok Chai police were called to a house in Soi 87 Lat Prao yesterday after noise complaints from the neighbors.

What they thought might just be a warning to the resident of the house in Suk Sabai Villa turned into a drug bust.

Somprasong Kaewkhoon, 35, had converted part of the house into a ganja growing operation complete with air-con and fans to regulate temperature conditions.

Daily News called it "organic" weed in their headline.

Police found eight plants both small and well-grown, loose ganja, seeds and a bong.

Somprasong said he learnt about growing ganja at home from foreign sources and honed his techniques using YouTube.

He had been growing the drugs for about a year.

Earlier it was reported that the Thai government has decided to begin the process of making marijuana for medical purposes legal - a move that users hope will one day see the drug decriminalized for recreational use.

That day is some was off for Somprasong, however, who has been charged with drug offences.

"Medical purposes", what kind of medical conditions does it help with / alleviate ?

Chronic pain in general, sleep disorders, stress. It promotes a general feeling of well-being, which would probably be of some benefit to many people suffering from various illnesses. So in that respect it is not very different to many prescription tranquillisers.

Thanks for the reply. I have trouble sleeping. Most nights I can't sleep more than 3 or 4 hours, so I'll definitely try it, if it becomes legal. Must be better than getting hooked on sleeping pills.
