Van overturns in Korat, 18 hurt

By The Nation

Eighteen people were injured when a chartered van taking workers from Rayong home to Roi Et overturned in Nakhon Ratchasima just after midnight Thursday.

Police said the accident occurred on Ratchasima-Wang Nam Khiew Road in Pak Thongchai district at 12.30am.

Driver Pisamai Uttawichai, 38, and 17 passengers were hurt.

Two women were being treated at the district hospital for possible internal injuries. The rest suffered minor injuries and were soon discharged.

Pak Thongchai police chief Pol Col Kachen Setaputta said the driver dozed off and the van swerved and flipped over.

Lucky escape, "only" hurt.

If I read these location names I expect the worst.

And to call the vehicle a van might be misleading.

It's not a minivan of the usual suspect but a small ISUZU truck equipped with two row seating and roof. Often seen for local bus transport.

18 people, tons of stuff in bags etc, a motorbike all in the back of such a small truck.

Typical poor man's charter.

Just read one report that says it is a 6 wheeler, more a like midsize truck (7 tons or so?).

Can hardly believe from the picture.

Not enough Red Bull in the system. Gotta have a 6 pack at the ready for a long trip!

Thanks for the pic. Minivan/minibus , what a load of tosh. Looks like it was carrying a load of tosh too.

Dual wheel rear axle so it is a 6 wheeler.

From enlargement of pic. I think I can see 2 tires.

Of course!

Just realized that I misinterpreted "6 wheeler" as "three-axle".

After comparing pictures it's quite sure an older model of "ISUZU ELF". This comes close:

Lucky escape thank god. Could have been 18 dead I see the usual suspects come into play.  The normal excuses like brake failure asleep at wheel  Road conditions etc  The truth will never come out why the accident happened so next case. The driver will be back on the road today carrying another mob of workers.
