I've never seen any one walk a dog with a lease in Thailand and I've never seen anyone pick up dog poo. If someone else's dog walks onto our land then we have to scare it off and/or pick up the poo. Why should a farang have to do any differently? To the OP, just keep walking your dog and ignore the old man. The exception would be if he doesn't let his 3 dogs run around (e.g. they are well behaved/controlled) in which case you should use a lead just when walking past his house What a ridiculas response 3 1

Popular Post khunpa
Any chance you are American and live in Chiang Mai? My wife came home yesterday and told me she had talked with a Thai man from our moo ban, who was pissed off with an american guy and his dog. The Thai man who is in the army told my wife, that he one day might get so angry, that he would shoot the farang and his dog. Anyway, hope that is not you he was talking about ? Because if so, I would advise you to bring a plastic bag, next time you walk the dog. (Above is true story... not a joke) Edited May 22, 2018 by khunpa

Popular Post richard_smith237
It always amazes me how 'some' foreigners in Thailand can get themselves in trouble or lose favor with the locals for nothing more than their simple ignorance and lack of consideration for others. It also amaze me how 'some' of the comments in response to threads such as this suggest that those who find themselves on the wrong side of favor 'just carry on and ignore them'... or that 'Thai's do it so why shouldn't they' etc etc... Well, Thai behaving the same are equally as likely to lose favor with locals when behaving in an antisocial manner. Thus: Follow the basic rules of human decency which are pretty much universal throughout the world - and when walking the dog, clean up after it and keep it on a leash unless you go a wide open space where no one else is. .... how hard is that? IF you wish to use the space on the Moo-ban, find out who's land it is and yes, clean up your mess (the dog doo).... how hard is that? 3

Stargeezr
I think the Thai guy just does not like foreignors and that is what you are. Also if you have a noisy dog or one that bullies other dogs, that could also be a reason.
EricTh
In my village, there are irresponsible Thai owners who just let their dogs run around without leash. Some of these dogs frequently come to my garden and poo there. They are also very noisy and bark a loud. What if other dogs poo at your place and bark at you, would you like that? Popular Post cliveshep
It is common courtesy to pick up your dog's poo and as said is law in many countries, like my own - the UK. It isn't hard to do, buy a pack of 100 white plastic 10" x 5" or 12" x 6" tie-handle bags from Big C or Tesco and stick a couple on your pocket when you go out. Simply put your hand in the bag and pick up the poo, turning the bag inside out over it and tie it off. So simple, hygienic, responsible, you do not come into contact with a bag's contents, and you leave nothing to offend anyone. When you get home chuck it in the bin. What could be easier? We have 4 dogs, we take two up the local rice-field farm and walk or run them up the farmer's grassy path, maybe a kilometre long. In fact the dogs love to run so we let them go and chase them on the Fino scooter we use to transport them one at a time on the pillion between us. We take bags as above and clean up after them. The farmer gave us permission to run dogs and drive there and we are now friends. So why not live in peace with your neighbours and don't be regarded as an anti-social farang? 35 baht every 100 days for bags is a small price to pay for peace I'd have thought. 3

maximillian
Didn't read through all six pages of comments, but I think, in a country like Thailand where millions of soi dog packs walk freely just about everywhere, some Thai old guy is frowning upon a foreigner going for a walk with his dog on a leash or not, is ridiculous. The whole country is already covered with dog shit, filth and garbage. Unless one lives in a gated community, I can't see a problem with another free roaming dog. BTW, I have no dog and I wish the Thai authorities would take care (TAKE CARE ? hahaha) of the soi dog packs for the benefit of the country, for the safety of children and cyclists, for hygiene... Thailand is like living in a landfill and they don't seemed to care. I sailed this entire area on my Ketch and the biggest problem I had was getting an anchor to hold because of wall to wall plastic on the bottom. The people here simply don't give a shit. Start caring about the environment and then we will tackle this awful poop problem. Don't panic, its organic.
