I wouldn't concentrate on the frame too much, reckon the groupset is more important. For me high end road would Shimano 105 upwards, and XT upwards for MTB. So far I managed with "lower end" components, but last year with 10000+ km I went to the shop twice to replace some bits. Further cannot get the gears indexed properly, I need "double actuations" way too much.
