CHIANG MAI, 7th June 2018 (NNT) – A Chiang Mai pho noodle restaurant has enlivened its business through technology by introducing a robot server.

The pho noodle or Kuay Jub Yuan restaurant of Kongkrit Rattanamoung is named “At Ubon Kuay Jub Yuan” and is located in Hang Dong district of Chiang Mai.

Kongkrit explained that while he has a passion for the noodle dish, he needed to differentiate his shop and reduce capital costs. He said it took him only a month to design and assemble the robotic server, which has become a major attraction for the eatery. The automaton was built using schematics from the internet and cost about 100,000 baht to make.

Customers simply enter their order into the tablet computer carried by the robot so that it may relay the information to the kitchen and then return with their food. Kongkrit even programmed the robot to say “your order is ready” and “we apologize for keeping you waiting”.

UBOT01, as the robot has been dubbed, operates daily at the restaurant.

Somchai may try to drive it home

Isn't there a robot service restaurant just opened in Central Mall, Pattaya?

Memba this?  "Domo arigato...Mr. Robato...."

Its programmed to ignore you after it brings you your noodles. Its also programmed to forget to bring condiments...

Isn't any robot or monkey an improvement over most human servers?

With cheap labor here you would think robots are unnecessary and expensive.

But with most businesses employing muliple staff where one capable staff would suffice, robots make business sense here. The problem here lies in the expertise of programming them. But at least a robot once programmed correctly will not repeat the same mistakes, unlike staff who seem cannot learn from their mistakes and just repeat them over and over, similar to dumb robots.

Certainly not. But keep thinking about it.
