international roaming

Featured Replies

I didn't think i needed IR before i left Thailand, but now realise i  need SMS for OTP for my bank.

How can i activate IR from overseas..i sent 2 emails to [email protected] yesterday but have had no response.

I was told i would get an automated reply and they would activate it, but nothing has come.

I called a help line number and when prompted to press 9 for English,it instead went to a Thai language.

Any advice appreciated.

You can do this via USSD, IVR, the mobile app or web-based tool.

Activate International Service      Direct Number (USSD) *118*9#   IVR*1018  Press 9 Press 1

Deactivate International Service   Direct Number (USSD) *118*2*9#   IVR*1018  Press 9 Press 1

Check International Service status  Direct Number (USSD) *118*3*9#  IVR*1018  Press 9

Believe the IVR instructions route you to the English-language section

This assumes your phone has a local roaming partner's signal of course.

The email should result in action/reply, but maybe not until the normal workday in Thailand, i.e. Monday morning? Obviously give your number, name and at least a part of the number of the document (passport) you used to register the SIM.

Hi, Thanks for your reply..the email might be coming today, but it did say 24/7 and these types of things mostly do work outside of normal office hours.

Will look at the other leads you gave if no email comes.

Download the Dtac calling app, no need for international roaming and calls and sms at local rate over wifi

Yes, the DTAC Call app (VoWiFi plus a few more features like managing up to 5 numbers) has worked well for me when in a few Asian countries and in the U.S. Obviously you need a stable WiFi signal, a VoWiFi-capable phone, and to register for the service, and can't really move around during a call, but it has worked. For SMSes using DTAC Call, I can receive them, which seems to be the OPs primary app, but I cannot originate them, or reply to received SMSes. A minor issue, and perhaps a result of misconfiguring the app or my phone. Every phone is a bit different, and incoming calls will be routed to your on WiFi (internet connection), so you have to remember to toggle that back to a GSM connection if you want to receive calls. On my phone it's under WiFi Calling, Mobile Preferred -  on/off.
