Passer-by stops woman, 70, from throwing herself off Krungthep Bridge

A passer-by prevented a 70-year-old woman from jumping from Krungthep Bridge into the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok’s Thon Buri district on Tuesday morning.

 

Wipak Hirandecha, 52, told police that after he had spotted the woman climbing the bridge fence at about 10am, he pulled her back from the brink and called the police.

 

Pol Major Kampol Kaewmeechai, inspector at Bang Khor Laem police station, said the family of the woman, whose name was being withheld, had been contacted to pick her up from the police station.

 

The inspector said the woman had made several previous suicide attempts at the bridge because of conflicts within her family.
