The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) will extend the boat service on Phasi Charoen Canal by 1.5km, deputy BMA governor Sakonthee Phatthiyakul.

He unveiled the plan after he visited Phasi Charoen and the connected Bangkok Yai canal.

Sakonthee said many residents have called on the BMA to extend the boat on Phasi Charoen canal from Phasi Charoen to Wat Kamphaeng Bang Chak pier to make it more convenient for residents and visitors.

Currently, there are no regular boats for the section of the canal and tourists have to charter long-tail boats.

The deputy governor said the Phasi Charoen service was popular, with about 1,000 passengers a day.

It charges a flat rate of Bt15 per trip and the services are available in the morning and evening on weekdays and from 7am to 6pm on weekends.

The extended route would be run on trial basis in 45 days on weekends first with the same fare of Bt15 per trip, Sakonthee added.
