Everybody lies, but hands down, Thais is the best to lie, and so convincing they do it. No matter where they come from in the country, poor middel class (not hang around any rich yet), and some who think they are high class after marry a "rich handsome" falang! 

 

Where is the line of what is acceptable lies, and not?

No need to, they run the country. Politicians,  business magnates, they all tell porkies. expensive, high quality porkies.

I have lived and stayed many places in Thailand, and also travelled most of the country, and not been a beerbar monger. I go to bars, but not my first choice for a good night out. I met quite a few locals on my way, and also lived among them without being involved with them in relationships. So I guess I had quite a bit experinece with thais from different backgrounds, and not only bargirls if that was your question. 

The Thais I know are blatantly honest. 

Especially compared to some westerners I have met.

I have to second that.....Bluntly honest over the years....My friends report the same.....

 

Just came back from a 3 month holiday to my birth nation....

Much more comfortable here in that regard.....

Much of it is to prevent that worst of all fates 'loss of face'. My wife recently invested in a buisness,never told me but all her friend's knew so of course i found out,yet she can still not admit to me this is the case,she know's that i know she is lying when i ask her,yet she still cannot bring herself to admit it,pathological in a way.

The Thais will never cease to astound....sometimes they just behave like jackals with farangs or amongst themselves....and suddenly they will do an action, maybe so small but so great,  that will put anybody else to shame...definately..."Amazing Thailand"©

in 5 years of living ,running my busines and working ,iv never once met a thai i could trust .

I wonder what circles some people move in?  The vast majority of Thai people I work with and meet are very honest.

 

Could you imagine the chaos in any European country or US State if there was no real rule of law and an ineffective police force?  I think the natural tendency of most Thai's (well those not wearing a uniform anyway) is towards honesty.

Im more impressed by those who claim they never experience Thai lies! It is everywhere, from the head of state, to taxi drivers, and I did not only ment gf, bf or close relatives, but the whole society how it works.

People lie to people they either don't like or want to get something off them.

 

If people lie to you all the time there is one common dominator.

Good people don't need to lie everyday to save face cause they aren't doing the wrong things everyday.

I agree, but unfortunately (very sad actually) good people and lying is synonymous here, and almost accepted as the norm.
