Bangkok Bombings: Suspects Identified

Jai Dee

I have honest, hard working relatives who have roots down South and do banking, regularly visit cell phone shops up here. I bet there are also hundreds of criminals around Bangkok who could be spotted at the same locations. You can surely find my family members or Bangkok and farang criminals, even yourself if you look long enough at the tapes. Big deal.

The investigations so far are still nothing but an intentional farce, same as the still unsolved pre-coup investigations.

I think it is still too early to come to even provisional conclusions, and suggest it is best to await the authorities final conclusions.Already on this forum those who initially blamed with certainty one party or another have begun an almost imperceptible backtracking.Sometimes this begins with a comical defensiveness (eg the poster who very recently dismissed CCTV footage on the grounds anybody could be caught on it -tell that to the London bombers!).Seriously it is a confusing situation and the authorities haven't helped much through contradictory announcements.Let's be patient and hope that these criminals be caught and punished, wherever they come from.

Seripisut expresses confidence of solving Bangkok bombing cases

Newly-appointed police chief Pol Gen Seripisut Temiyavej Tuesday expressed confidence that he could solve the Bangkok bombings case.

Seripisut was giving interview to Nation Group editor Thepchai Yong during the Siam This Morning programme broadcast on Channel 5.

The acting police chief said if he had enough time he could solve all the cases, including the Bangkok bombings on New Year's Eve, the bomb attack against Daily News paper, and arson attacks against many schools in northern and northeastern provinces.

"All can be done but it depends on time frame. Bangkok bombings, bomb attack against Daily News, and school arsons in many provinces and even the southern violence could be solved," Seripisut told Thepchai.

"But I need time. Today [Tuesday], I'll hold a meeting of all police commanders to set the working direction so that police forces could move on working."

Seripisut said he did not know in advance that he would be made acting police commissioner-general, replacing Pol Gen Kowit Wattana.

"I've never met the prime minister earlier," he said.

Acting national police chief Pol Gen Seripisut Temiyavej said Wednesday that an arrest warrant will be issued next week against alleged persons who planted bombs in one of nine Bangkok bombings.

It's so sweet.

"Dear Mister Terrorist. Please, notice that we will come to arrest you, probably next week, if the weather is nice and if I don't have an hangover after the weeding party of my daugther. Anyway, you'll be kind enough to prepare your bag (for the custody and then after the jail). Tank you for your cooperation".

We are swimming in a sea of love. Oh, I forgot : it's Valentine day. Even for the rozy thai police.

Police set to arrest suspects

Move for court warrants looms; DSI unimpressed

Police would be able to identify suspects with links to one of the nine bomb attacks on New Year's Eve and issue arrest warrants against them next week, acting police chief Seripisut Temiyavej said yesterday.

He did not say how many suspects would face arrest or which of the nine sites they were allegedly involved in bombing.

Assistant police chief Pol Lt General Jongrak Juthanont, head investigator handling the Bangkok bombs, said he expected a request would be submitted to the Criminal Court for the warrants as early as tomorrow.

Department of Special Investigation (DSI) director-general Sunai Manomai-udom said he wondered what evidence police would use to obtain the warrants, as a parallel probe by the DSI into the bombings had found nothing new other than video footage from surveillance cameras at the bomb sites.

Sunai, a former judge, said images of suspects captured from the footage was not enough to be used in court against suspects in most trials.

"I personally believe that the police rushed to make arrests because they needed to show off their performance," he said.

"If the DSI catches someone, the evidence against them must be sufficient and good enough. We don't make arrests to release suspects."

The DSI is now waiting for results of advanced photo analysis from Denmark of certain video footage. Clearer pictures of suspects would be matched with profiles of criminal records or the public identity database.

Sunai said if there was any leak of photos or identities of suspects it would not be by the DSI. He was referring to an earlier media leak of a photo of Ramkhamhaeng University "dropout" Thawalsak Paenae as a suspect.

Thawalsak is wanted by Yala police for his alleged links to many bomb attacks in the Muslim South. He is now on the run.

It's like a TV show. "Will the suspect have time to escape ? Could it be possible to prepare his bag, before the police arrive ? Will he forget his toothbrush ? You'll know in the next episode of Bombastic and The Thai Police. Stay tuned. Peace"

However, were are the commercials ?

Done.

The arrest warrant was requested this morning.

Now, police gave some crucial pieces of information regarding the bomber.

"The suspect, believed to have planted a bomb near Saphan Khwai, was reportedly a man who was more than 165 centimetre high and aged no more than 30 years old."

Police chief insists man captured on security camera real bomber

National Police chief Pol Gen Seripisut Temyavej insisted Friday that the picture of a man captured on a security camera in Saphan Kwai area belonged to the person who planted one of nine bombs in Bangkok on New Year's Eve.

Seripisut said the evidence was clear that the man was the person who planted a bomb in Saphan Kwai area so police sought an arrest warrant against him.

Seripisut admitted that police did not know the name of the man yet.

NEW YEAR'S EVE

Warrant issued for blast suspect

Police hope release of video footage of Saphan Khwai attack will lead to identification

The Criminal Court yesterday issued an arrest warrant for a man police said was involved in the bomb attack near Bangkok's Saphan Khwai intersection on New Year's Eve.

Head investigator and deputy National Police chief Jongrak Juthanont said the suspect, whose identity is still unknown, was charged with five offences including terrorism, attempted murder of police on duty and possession of explosives without authorisation.

Deputy National Police chief Jongrak Juthanont

Jongrak will on Monday seek permission from acting National Police chief Seripisut Temiyavej to make public a video grab of the suspect captured by a surveillance camera at the intersection in Bang Sue district.

The hope is that the combination of issuing an arrest warrant and releasing the video will lead to a member of the public identifying the bombing suspect.

Jongrak said police had not yet obtained any leads indicating a link between the Saphan Khwai man and Ramkhamhaeng University dropout Thawalsak Paenae, who was seen in footage taken at the Seacon Square shopping mall - another of the nine bomb sites.

Justice Ministry permanent secretary Charan Pakdithanakul played down media coverage reporting conflicts between police and his ministry's Department of Special Investigation (DSI) over the Bangkok bombings investigation, saying any confusion was due to "unsynchronised communication" between both agencies.

post-27080-1171695703_thumb.jpg

Charan Pakdithanakul

He said the DSI had become involved in the probe only at the order of the prime minister and police were the key players in working everything out.

However, a study was under way to authorise the DSI to initiate investigations into national security cases on its own, he added.

DSI director-general Sunai Manomai-udom said his department was willing to function as a support unit after it handed investigating authority to police.

The DSI's focus was on solving the Seacon Square bomb case and the suspects carrying out the attack. He expressed confidence the perpetrators would be brought to justice.

Big reward for identity of bomber

Bt1 million for name of man at Saphan Khwai

A Bt1-million bounty has been offered for anyone able to identify a man in a police video clip released yesterday that shows him planting a bomb near Saphan Khwai intersection in Bangkok on New Year's Eve.

However, the two-minute footage did not reveal the face of the lone suspect, who wore a white baseball cap and looked down to the ground all the time while on his way to plant the bomb at a police box, then walked away.

The man, who appeared to be around 25-30 years old, wore a blue short-sleeved shirt and a pair of paler blue jeans, plus he had a belt pack on his shoulder.

The video recorded the suspect at 4.53pm on December 31 - just over an hour before the 6pm blast that injured a woman walking past the police box.

The bomb was one of about nine that went off at sites throughout central Bangkok that night.

Deputy police chief Phatcharawat Wongsuwan said the man had a characteristic way of walking and people who knew or had seen him should inform police or call 02-255-9977.

He said investigators were also deciding whether to release video footage from security cameras at Seacon Square and the Major Ratchayothin movie complex. A decision is needed as to whether releasing the footage would be useful to the police.

The police general said arrest warrants would be sought against all suspects linked to the nine bomb attacks after police produce evidence to use against them.

He would not comment when asked if there should be an investigation to find out who leaked a photo of a suspect to media two weeks ago.

The mugshot of Ramkham-haeng University dropout Thawalsak Paenae was leaked to the media one day after the Justice Ministry's Department of Special Investigation began a joint probe into the bomb attacks at the order of Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont.

The DSI later handed the case back to police after Seripisut Temiyavej replaced Kowit Watana as national police chief earlier this month. DSI Sunai said later he was sure the media leak was not from DSI agents.

Thawalsak is wanted by Yala police for alleged links to many bomb attacks at commercial banks in the strife-torn South. He is now on the run.

  • 2 weeks later...
However, the DSI has not invited the suspect to the department for interrogation yet.

Source: Thai National News Bureau Public Relations Department - 02 February 2007

God luv ya, TNNBPRD.... you guys are plucky.. I give you that.

"invited" is something you do when you do over the teen-chat line when you have a slumber party or a flowery card you send for an anniversary dinner...

I must say, since Thaksin never really showed the military his financial love, now that they are in the graft, wouldn't it make sense to blow up a few bikes in bangkok yourself, to scare the public, and insure your goverment control for another year or so?

Like anything in the news, this kinda stinks.

Three more bombing suspects identified

Three more individuals suspected of carrying out two of the nine bomb attacks in Bangkok on New Year's Eve will be identified and face arrest warrants next week, acting national police chief Seripisut Temiyavej said yesterday.

A man and a woman are suspected of having carried out the attack at Seacon Square and another man that at the Major Ratchayothin cinema complex.

Seripisut did not say how the three suspects were implicated or whether they simply appeared in video footage taken from security cameras at the sites.

The police general said he would be briefed on the three suspects in detail by police investigators on Monday and would approve a police request seeking arrest warrants against them if the evidence was sufficient.

Meanwhile he called on local media not to exaggerate travel and terror warnings by Western governments concerning possible threats in Bangkok.

He asked the public to trust in the joint work of military and police officers to protect them.

I just hope that the tense is wrong here “will be identified next week.” It makes it sound like they have yet to reach into the hat.

Well... They claimed today that it has been done.

?

"We now know who they are and what their names are," he said, adding that all of them were being tracked by police, but he needed more evidence against them before giving an approval for police's request for arrest warrants from the court.

http://www.nationmultimedia.com/breakingne...newsid=30029103

The circus continue. Same as the "first" guy, who was supposed to be identified.

They have video footages, they have names... But of course, they need "more" to get... an arrest warrant ! :o

Just to remind you : for the first suspect, they got the arrest warrant, with only the video footage...

It would be interesting to release the names : do the 3 suspects have "south" names for instance ? Are they linked to a group ? Or they are good military personnel ?

Once again, the whole thai police/justice system appears to be a kind of childish joke, a TV show, an entertainement.

Here are the lastest news :

Civilians, not soldiers, were behind the New Year bombings in Bangkok and Nonthaburi, acting national police chief Pol Gen Seripisuth Temiyavej said yesterday. He said already knew the motive for the bombings.

He was speaking after convening a meeting lasting more than an hour to discuss progress in the inquiry into the bombings that killed three people and injured about 40 others.

The evidence did not point to soldiers, but rather to civilians, he said.

''I know the cause of the bombings but now is not the time to reveal it. Please wait for more progress.

''When the time is right, I'll let it be known. This week I have demanded the accounts of investigation heads at the operational level and will give the orders myself,'' he said.

http://www.bangkokpost.com/News/13Mar2007_news08.php

Without any doubt, we are making progress ! :D

So the new suspects are not military. But we still don't now if they have a south name, or if they're coming from the south.

Come on mister Clown Chief Police, it's almost the end of the road...

Police considering evidence of bombings at Seacon Square and Major Ratchayothin shopping complex

The acting Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police, Pol. Gen. Seripisuth Temiyavej, says the evidence of the Bangkok bombings is being considered before more arrest warrants will be issued. The evidence is linked to the bombings in Seacon Square and Major Ratchayothin on December 31st 2006.

Pol. Gen. Seripisuth says four bombing incidents are being studied in Canada, and three of those have been sent back to Thailand. He says arrest warrants have already been issued to the culprits who are involved with the blast in Saphan Kwai. However, police will have to wait for the evidence of the bombings in Seacon Square and Major Ratchayothin to be clearer before arrest warrants will be issued. Pol. Gen. Seripisuth says the preliminary information can link the offenders and the bombing incidents, but he could not reveal the information yet.

As for the unrest rumors in Bangkok during March 13th and 15th, Pol. Gen. Seripisuth asks the media not to amplify them and the general public not to be panic. He says he is confident the police and army officers can take care of their safety.
