Briggsy Posted February 23, 2008 Share Posted February 23, 2008 When one has these incidents stemming from disputes between very influential people leading to crimes, the police know that they cannot make arrests. The informal power would trump the legal power. Then we see this game in which somebody with no power is charged and the charges are left on file so the police can claim to have done something. There is a similarity to the school bus shooting in Ratchaburi in which a (then) stateless Karen man was convicted and imprisoned and later acquitted and released because the real perpetrator was too well-connected. There are numerous cases of these powerless scapegoats being used. There was even a farang scapegoat in the Kirsty Jones case in Chiang Mai.
