Made the mistake of trying the Dungtawan and not a pleasurable experience. Food was average at the very best but biggest issue was the masses/heards of Chinese tour groups. If they pay the money they have as much right to be there but personally I prefer to feed in a more relaxed atmosphere so recommend skipping the Dungtawan as there has to be better options elsewhere.

Don't know but others may.

Check the Holiday Inn as they used to have a seafood buffet Friday evenings but haven't ventured that way for many a year. If you can double your budget then the lobby restaurant at the Meridien may be within reach and that has a Sunday brunch most weeks that includes decent seafood but that said I haven't been there for a while.

A year ago we went to the Shangri-La and all they had was a seafood buffet...not cheap though , 1,000  baht a head, but excellent food, loads of crab and lobster (Our Thai wives we were with just ate as much crab and lobster as they could, and it never ran out). This would cost you maybe 5k a head at some of the top restaurants in town like Le Coq Dor.

Places that have any type of buffet and are reasonably priced have become packed with Chinese tour groups or individual groups.  If you truly want to see how bad they are go eat at one of these places.  Pushing, shoving, piling their plates with all the seafood and all the time yelling at each other at the top of their lungs.  It's the same at breakfast.  One time was enough for me to avoid making the same mistake.  Thank God these eff...ing Chinese have not invaded Auf De Au.  The day they do is when I will go postal on a group of these tos...sers.

To me Chiang Mai/Seafood/300/500baht just doesn't jive. Guaranteed the fish and shrimp will have never seen the ocean but I guess living where we do we have to accept such things.

If you ever happen to visit Kuching find the food court 5 floors up on top of the car park. Literally 30 stalls all selling seafood of ever shape and size majority of which just may have had a swim in the open ocean before hitting the plate. Great stuff.

I tried it once...without the Chinese tourists.  It was "ok", nothing to write home about, but reasonable value for the price.  Worth a try.  I also did the Shangri La buffet and thought the Duangtawan was better value.
