A senior Khon Kaen policeman who scaled the outside of a burning condominium building to rescue a heavily pregnant woman has been praised by his superiors.

Crime Suppression Inspector Wayu Khampha heard that Wasana Chommali, six to seven months pregnant, was trapped in her fifth floor room at the seven story Chic Condo on Sunday.

So he scaled the outside of the building climbing on air conditioner compressors until he reached Wasana. Once there he helped her with wetting cloths to prevent smoke inhalation and helped her out on hands and knees to safety.

Inspector Wayu said modestly that the safety of the public is his number one concern.

Yesterday Khon Kaen top brass led by Pol Maj Gen Chalermwit Sriwanich presented the hero with a certificate of honor citing his bravery and fine sense of duty.

Regarding the police, that's a nice news story for a change. I don't know if there were other subordinates around or not, but at least he got on with his job.
