Monk Who Predicted Thai Cave Rescue Hailed for ‘Intervention’

Monday night’s successful location of a youth soccer team and their coach who had been missing in a flooded cave complex in northern Thailand has put the spotlight on a local monk who had earlier predicted that the group would be found alive.

 

Phra Khuva Boonchum hails from northern Thailand, and is already known to a number of prominent leaders in Myanmar, including State Counselor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi. In this country he is known as Maing Hpone Sayadaw.

 

The monk visited the Tham Luang cave complex in Chiang Rai late last week, by which time the 12 soccer players and their coach had been trapped for several days. Braving monsoon rains on Friday, the 54-year-old monk performed religious rites and prayed for the wellbeing of the missing youth and their coach, as well as cave-dwelling spirits. On his departure, the monk told Thai journalists, “They are all still there; they will be found in one or two days,” according to Thai media.

About the most useful thing he could do now is to stop the rains for a few more days... or just <deleted>.

Nope, he said they would all be found alive, that they would be found on Pattaya beach and that they would be found within two days.  He was right about two of those things and neither of them had a 50/50 chance.

Weren't they found about 600m past Pattaya Beach?

I think he is a phoney and I don't think he predicted anything. I strenuously believe that a frog told him they would be rescued and now he is trying to claim the glory.

He's a bit like someone else I know.

Yes, The monk who Kingpower flew out to the UK to bless Leicester City football club, happened to say they would win some football trophy or other. They did, and he got his ten minutes of fame.

What's he doing now I wonder - perhaps predicting day will follow night...

If his predictions were a comfort for the families desperately waiting for the outcome, kudos to the guy.

 

Edit:  Making the prediction may have been easy.  Achieving a status where anyone gave a hill of beans what he predicted was the mean feat.

 

That's why it doesn't matter that anyone on here could have made the same prediction.  Nobody cares.

At the end of October last year my wife and self were in UK.

One day outside the house we had rented two dogs were going at it with their bums into the wind.

I told my wife that my granny always said that if you see two dogs at it with their bums into the wind then the following year in June there would be record breaking temperatures in parts of UK.

like  miracles when  the  plane  crashed and one  person survived.......miracle....the other 200+ dead apparently dont  count
