Explorers continue to search the mountain for a 'chimney' that could lead to the cavern where the 12 young footballers and their coach are trapped.

BANGKOK — As Thai and international rescue workers are racing against time to extract 12 young footballers and their coach out of a northern cave, one more help could be at hand – but bureaucracy is getting in the way.

Fifteen days into the rescue effort at Tham Luang Nang Non complex, cave experts from a French agency said they are ready to deploy and help, as soon as the Thai government formally requests for their help. But the Thai government said they would only accept help that comes on its own.

More skilled people with maybe a good idea or two, which won't be forthcoming by the look of it.

Many caves in France, similar to the one in Thailand

problem, Thailand must pay for it

exercices to save people

Wasn't it the French who coined the phrase, "Too many cooks, spoil the soup?"

Perhaps not, but it sounds like something they'd say...

IIRC the two Brits leading the current rescue mission were the same ones recovering bodies from a French cave a few years back.

In another related thread, the various foreign teams already participating were reportedly asked to come and assist by agencies of the Thai government and AFAIK anyone else actively participating is volunteering. If the Thai government haven't asked the French cave divers, maybe that has more to do with poor representation by the French legation in Bangkok?

In another related thread, a Frisian (Dutch) water pump company have an advance team in Chiang Rai this weekend before deciding what pumps need to be mobilised from the Netherlands. This request for assistance from the Thai government was also reported to have been initiated by representations made by the Dutch Embassy in Bangkok.

They made a proposal that wasn't in the form of aid, at the 11th hour.

Admirable bunch.

Evacuation has begun, let's follow the other thread, good luck  to the boys and their rescuers and see you in Moscow
