It's a long time since I've looked at the forum. Yes posts seem to be down, but the quality seems to be up, with a lot less of the right wing hysteria and anti Thai bigotry that infested the forum in the past.

really?

that's pretty much all i see.

But every time I start thinking that the current ThaiVisa isn't quite the same forum I knew years ago, I just start thinking and salivating over what the next Dan column will be... And suddenly, the world is a much brighter place!

I haven't come across the Dan column yet, but I always look forward to Rooster's "The week that was in Thailand" (or something like that)

the other issue is being personally attacked by total strangers. look at this response to my comment on a thread:

"Yea, course you did. If you had everything in the US, was happy and successful, loving family and friends, there's not a chance in hell you would have decided to emigrate to Thailand. Makes ZERO sense. Not sure who you're trying to kid fella."

Really? As if this person has any clue about me. Here he calls me a liar and a total failure.

Do give it a rest about the moderation on here , all the other similar forums are full of posters who cannot speak without being abusive and(who cannot post here any longer)just spend all day calling each other names .

Its the moderation here that keeps the people away who cannot speak without being abusive and threatening  that keeps this place going .

*U said what , dats B******s , ill kin hit you* blah blah blah

To whom does the anonymity give the greater power?

If you ignore the majority of what goes on the internet its better for the blood pressure.

I use two Thailand forums and this one is full of abusive and sarcastic posters, culture isn't good and has been getting worse for years. Can it be reversed? Maybe if people know how

We are all different in what we expect from a free forum and how we use it. Many posters post a lot but even more just probably read or move on.

Although the forum is free to us it is actually a commercial enterprise, unlike others..

Over the years there has been a vast increase in Internet stuff that folk are now dabbling in, including me..This increase will affect many forums...

My 2p...

Specialist threads (Health, Technology, Visas, Photography etc) remain largely unscathed and informative, whereas 'local' threads attract trolls and 'ne'er do wells' inc a sizable number who failed in love or business at said places before disappearing with their tail between their legs and hold the place responsible for whatever fate befell them instead of looking in the nearest mirror. Thaivisa could minimize this behaviour by not unnecessarily baiting 'local' links on the homepage drawing trolls in & causing regular posters/valuable contributors living in those areas to tire of forever putting the fires out. The number of regular posters on my local thread has dwindled to single digits as a direct result.....

On a slightly different subject on three separate threads today I have noted seemingly provocative input from 'newbies' yet on closer inspection their profiles reveal they signed up more than a decade ago with only 5/>100 posts to their name. I worked out some years ago what this actually means and so did the likes of drummond.

HTH

Who is drummond? Is he a member of TV.

Only my opinions - here goes:

Change of ownership lead to changed rules/priorities.

Lots of Ads - Delays for those with ad blockers

Enforcement of rules too strict

Removal of daily News Broadcast

Removal of weekly opinion pieces

Infusion of more 'anti-Thai' stories

Infusion of 'left-wing' stories (anyone see a positive story about Trump?)

Pandering to a minority of Users

Failure to remove trolls - some seem to be 'protected'

Lots of apparently deliberately provocative news stories

Very few positive news stories and items

Enforcement of a narrow view of Thai and World events

Discouragement of opposing views and opinions

Failure to gain new members

Failure to keep old members

Other forums far more lenient and easier to use

Just my opinion/s.

Well said. You've pretty well summed it up in a nutshell.

Unlike others? There is usually advertising that generates income

The others I refer too use a third party provider which does have advertising but the forum makes no cash, the provider does...

If the forum hasn't got their own alternative then that's fair enough

What gets my goat is that it's so slow. Not just in the LOS but also in the UK where I have Virgin Media Internet. Overly strict censorship does not attract people to a forum either.

Unless you're one of the favoured few with some sort of a special arrangement there'e no imaginable way that I could possibly know that. I'm not a computer geek and nor have I ever claimed to be one.

Could it be that its so easy to get banned on here.that some posters no longer bother?

Sent from my SM-A720F using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile app

I think it's probably harder to get banned than ever. The number of abusive posts that fly under the radar now is incredible. It's a huge disincentive to start new threads.
