Popular Post The manic
The moral of this story. Do not overstay. If you ill and know you are going to overstay then some hospitals offer a visa extension service. In my case I went to immigration dept to get extension as I was still receiving hospital treatment. Don't bicker about bar bills and avoid the police. 3

And yes they are doing all sorts of weird stuff because for a change they are in air con room with clean floor and clean chairs. Not a wind up, get to the airport, pay the overstay bye bye. Get caught on overstay, get locked up, everybody knows that. OP was stupid enough to get tourist police involved whilst on overstay, so he got locked up. Edited July 21, 2018 by colinneil 2
tingtongtourist
I can see a how a tourist easily get caught up in this sort of thing. especially an Australian. cheap beer and bargirls>paradise then they will wonder around Pattaya in an alcoholic daze and forget (or dont even realise) there is a stamp in passport and date they must exit. 1 1

However with all due respect I can assure you it's not a "wind up" and I'll do the courtesy of giving the full story if you are interested. I'm sure there are people on here aware of the overstay drama if you are found to be over your allowable period not at the airport but by the police inside the country. They don't care if you are 1 day or 10 years over the treatment is horrendous and what I've heard it is to do with some recent change in the law or policy. My story is real and one I'll never forget, I've only been home 3 weeks and it's almost 10pm here in Australia. I'll post the whole story tomorrow because it will take a while to write. Actually the Thai immigration police do exactly what protesters in the United States are now marching, yelling, and screaming about: They incarcerate people with visa overstays or no documentation. Illegal immigrants and overstays are locked up in deplorable conditions, eventually processed, and deported. My guess is that jail conditions in Thailand are far worse than the US although the throngs of anti-immigration protesters would disagree. However, unlike the US, and the EU for that matter, there are no large groups of anti-immigration protesters backed by NGOs or Soros-backed organization, nor their supportive main-stream medias outraged over Thailand's immigration policies and handling of of immigration crime whose prosecution is portrayed as unconsciously offensive in the West. So none of the individuals in Western countries who support throwing open the doors of our own and all other Western countries to anyone and everyone will never be seen marching on Thai consulates world-wide or anywhere in Thailand demanding the same reform and abolition of Thai immigration enforcement agencies nor will there ever be a mention of the abysmal prison conditions. Nope. That 'organized outrage' is only directed at first world countries primarily the US and EU. And yet - there is no difference in the immigration laws. Only the amount of vocal outrage. ? 4

I guess some people think I was making the whole thing up ( I don't know what I would get out of that) I've got enough to do and I'm just glad I got home and out of the situation. All that in mind I decided not to type the whole saga out on here as it would be a long post and a pretty big effort even though I really only wanted anyone to be mindful if they were ever in the same position. Just a couple of quick points are my problems didn't occur when I was in hospital that was a just the unfortunate circumstance causing me to miss my flight home. It was days after that when I had a dispute in a bar over my bill and I was not aggressive at all and actually "bit the bullet" and paid in full. Then I happened to see some Tourist Police nearby and asked them for their thoughts on the incident and they agreed to look into and also asked if I had some ID. I always carry my passport and I never thought they would even look to see that my visa had expired 6 days earlier and it was all down hill from there. The bottom line is to anyone don't risk overstaying because it's not worth it if you are forced to show your passport before leaving the country. Contrary to a previous members post I was held for 2 weeks in Soi 9 and then 5 days in a Police cell at Banglamung and then 8 days in IDC in Bangkok. I've never been incarcerated in my life but I consider myself fairly resilient but hell that was something else I don't recommend sleeping on concrete floors with nothing else for 27 days straight and that was only part of the misery. Love to hear the whole story! Very interesting

A lot of self professed expert <deleted> who seem to believe they know the truth about everything that goes on in Thailand. Truth is they are likely to be truly narrow minded and ignorant of what goes on and live in a world of their own based on their own somewhat delusional experiences. Good luck to the OP and will hopefully not be deterred by these modern day Neanderthals. 4 1
