Everytime I come I get a prepaid data plan from DTAC and everytime it expires they send me offers. Can anyone explain the logic of their offers to me? They make me ting tong.

My data package expired Sunday at midnight. On Monday I got the offer:

Discount more than 30%! Unlimited internet at speed  512 Kbps special price atn59thb/7days. Subscribe dial blah blah

I go to DTAC on Monday and say I want the offer. The girl says you can only get it as an extension if you have a plan. I say my plan expired at midnight and I got the offer today. What you say makes no sense and it doesn't say it is an extension to a plan. Why would DTAC wait for my plan to expire then offer me an extension which I can't get because my plan expired?

I am not looking for an evaluation of the offer, just can anyone explain why I am offered something and then told I can't get it. This happens every time. This time I decided to push on it a bit to see what the reasoning is.

The trick is that you DON'T let your current package expire. Once you've got that sussed out, it's easy.

They don't want you to come to the shop and ask about SMS offers. They want you to install their app on your phone and you do your own shopping OTA. Their app keeps tabs on your usage and tailors offers to you BEFORE any current package expires. In my experience, the best, personalized  offers come through the app whereas the SMS is just carpet-bombing all subscribers.

Note that once you do have a package, DTAC will still bombard you with SMS offers for other packages and add-ons. You can tell them you wish to opt out of these.

There's still some payphones around BTW.

is there a DTAC data-only unlimited plan that I could use for a laptop  without  slowdowns 4G unlimited, I had one for my phone in the past, but can't seem to understand DTACs website

the wifi in my condo is shared by other tenants(probably insecure), and often goes up & down or is slow,   though I do use a VPN most of the time.

Am also curious if anyone can recommended a 4g hotspot device, instead of using my Android phone as a hotspot

cheers

that is dumb move by DTAC. i get offers from AIS 2-3 weeks before my package expires. here's a tip if you want to get the most out of DTAC. call them up and tell them you want to cancel your subscription but you want to keep the number because you're switching to another network. then they'll start offering you insane packages just to keep you. if they don't bite, just go ahead and switch, AIS is so much better anyway.

Yup, I had to put my message icon somewhere where I don't see it anymore, because of all the rubbish coming in, basically, I don't read any SMS anymore.

I have a Huawei Mobile WiFi Pro 2 Model E5885Ls cat 6 6400mAh 23wh I use it for my laptop when I need a connection without using a Proxy, but I still get a proxy now and then. But it is good when I have to connect to a bank in the USA that blocks Proxies. They may have come out with a newer model because I got mine in May 2018 downtown BKK the Big IT Tower mall, I don't remember the name of the building, I just remember every floor is Electronics/Computers/Phone......

I should should have clarified. Sorry. At the end of a 3 month trip I usually have a period of a couple weeks left after I have previously put in enough money for two months of a plan. So I change to a cheaper plan with less data. I can't sign up for the cheaper plan until my previous plan has expired.

I don't have a subscription but I get your point. What is the procedure for keeping your number and switching carriers? I remember hearing that the number of people allowed to switch is limited per amount of time. Still true?

I may be forced to switch anyway if they don't buy 1800  spectrum. I assume they will though.

I do get offers ahead of the expiration but, since they have told me I can't sign up for a different plan until the current one expires, I ignore them.

If you purchase an small mobile type router and FireWire it into the existing shared router you will have your own passworded WiFi without the need for a VPN which should improve your speeds.

You can also purchase a dedicated hotspot device in which you place an SIM card to cover whatever deal you do with the telecom company, but you may have to continue with your VPN unless you can lock it down securely with a password, but you will have to check this out.

Hope it helps

As my needs at that time have changed, that wouldn't help me. Please see 2 posts previous.

pantip plaza ? what did you pay for it, so you plug in a DTAC SIM card into it and it works better than a  mobile phone used as a hotspot I imagine?

the router/s (there are like 2-3 on each floor) are in the hallways ; and the owners don't allow anyone to even move antennas ; so that won't work

I did by a Wifi extender, which I'm hoping might help , but as a backup  I'm thinking some kind of DTAC 4g hotspot, though not sure how the 4g is in the new condo, I haven't moved to yet

Ok well I am sorry about the router suggestion, so maybe you can persue the latter, you will at least still have your own WiFi but data is not cheap and can also be slow.

I forget what these units are called but you should be able to track it down and the ask you different telecom companies for a WiFi solution.

It may take a little while to source info but I would think not more than 48 hours.

As for the units check it is 4G and possibly comparable with future5G

Most tukcoms will know about them or the telecom company you choose to go with can supply the lot, this may be better as it will be dedicated to them, but remember it will be locked out so you can not just use any SIM card if you are not satisfied with the service you receive.

where there is a will there is a way. Goodluck

https://www.dtac.co.th/en/prepaid/products/net-no-limit.html

for some reason the packages on this link don't always show up on my phone app which is somewhat annoying.

I find that the DTAC offers from the app are normally only a select three or four.

And normally scroll back through the multitude of texts received with offers on.

Normally as others have said, received after you renew. Doh.

It's a silly marketing strategy.!!

Offers given after you have renewed your plan.

Why not offer before it's time to renew?

Annoying strategy for users, but good for the suppliers. If your plan expires and you don't notice it then you go onto the full price data service so they get more money off you if you have left data on. At least its capped at 49THB max these days, unlike before.

You can cancel the older package within the web interface/App/by calling DTAC.

The older package has a higher data limit so I wait until it expires.

Why not purchase unlimited data at a capped speed and be done with it?

What packages are you purchasing?

Just get a postpaid subscription instead.  I pay 640 baht for a package with unlimited internet monthly and there's always enough GB left from last month to keep high-speed internet .

?? Why? That's then something that he has to cancel on leaving.  In any case you can get unlimited data for less than 640 per month.

I normally get the prepaid "unlimited" plan for about 400 baht which works for me. It's just at the end of the trip when I have a lot fewer than 30 days left I switch to a cheaper plan. But can't do it until previous plan has expired. That's when I get the offers on my phone that I am told I cannot use because my plan has expired.

I dont see the advantage of that when you can get an entire year of unlimited 4G data (at 4Mbs) for a pre-payment of 2500B.
