buying car in thailand

I would like to buy used car in Thailand.

what I need to do?

what is the licenses I need?

I know that when you buy used car in USA you can run free vin check and you get all the history of the car, is there something like that in Thailand?

 

if any one bought a car in Thailand please dive me advice

No vin check or Carfax in Thailand. Buying a used car is a gamble in Thailand especially if the service records do not come with the car. You will need your passport and either an Letter of Residence from Thai Immigration or a work permit. Good luck.

You will need to get a Thai licence or you could find you insurance invalid. Lots of info in this section about same.

Then just proceed as the above post. You might like to look at Toyota dealers as well as others as they have second hand cars that are at least guaranteed. Or you could try looking at cars for sale also in this section that have been owned by non Thai's as they should have some sort of service history.

To buy the car you just need money, to register the car in your name you need  Passport, "Certificate of residence from immigration"   or yellow book or work permit.

To drive the car on public roads you need a driving license..

if you only stay in Thailand for  less than 3 months at a time

you could get away with perpetually using your home country drivers license ( maybe an International drivers permit would help smooth things  if home license is not printed in English language)

after 3 months you are supposed to get a Thai drivers license which is quite easy as you can "convert" your home license to  Thai with only minimal tests.

Winding back odometers is a national pastime in Thailand, so the first thing you need is skepticism.

You also need far more money than a used car is worth. Everything in Thailand sold used is at ridiculous prices.

We've all seen ads like " used 4 year old Samsung fridge, paid 8,600 baht, sell for 8,100."

15 year old Toyotas being advertised for 250,000 baht.

I once read that after Henry Ford the greatest contributor to the car industry was the man who invented the concept of last year's model. The west fell for it hook line and sinker. 

What is the logical reason a car should lose 30% of its value when you drive if out if the showroom?There is none. Why should it be worth virtually nothing after five years? 

 

All marketing nonsense and the West fell for it.

That's why some of the best buys in Australia are low-mileage cars which were not popular models because the sheeple did not regard them as fashionable.

The Mitsubishi Magna ( Diamante elsewhere ) is a case in point. Despite having much better engineering than Fords or Holdens, they just weren't popular. They depreciated quite rapidly, which made them a screaming buy second-hand.

I was looking for a pickup the other day, guy in the car tent near Bang Chak BTS thought a 2016 Hilux Smart cab with 42000kms was worth 600,000 baht …..you can get a brand new, but 2017 model, for less than that from Toyota.
