Melatonin in Chiang Mai

Featured Replies

Is Melatonin available in Chiang Mai?

Any information would be appreciated about its effectiveness as a sleeping aid; possible negative side effects; and where it can be purchased.

Where it can be purchased is an appropriate question for this forum.

Why ask this motley crew about effectiveness as a sleeping aid; possible negative side effects; etc?

NHS, MayoClinic.org, WebMd etc etc.  are much better sources.

Fair point... although local input might be more relevant to what is available here in Chiang Mai.

The Chiang Mai price for this was too high for my budget: I ordered some time-release caps from iHerb on-line; two weeks later they arrived, no customs/duties as usual.

Effects: doesn't seem to do anything for me, but, the fact I am conjoined human and orangutan mind-souls cohabiting a rapidly declining homo saps meat-package bloated by excess vocabulary may mean something to Morpheus.

Thanks for that information.

The iHerb prices look good.

Two examples from Thai online shops:

3 mg, 90 pills, 450 Baht

5 mg, 90 pills, 350 Baht

10 mg, 60 pills, 650 Baht

Expensive?

And again, Lazada has tons of such stuff (incl. "Made in USA"):

If you want expensive you can ask for Swiss made in pharmacy.

3 mg, 10 pills, 600 Baht

That's expensive!

Many thanks for all the helpful replies.

The Health Forum thread was a good source of information both pro and con. It seems that the worst reported side effects were occasional "vivid" and "weird" dreams.

15  x 3mg here from a pharmacy - 585 baht.

120x 3mg on Lazada made in the US - 380 baht and they work exactly the same as the locally purchased one.

If you can source product from the US, then you can get a bottle of 100+ at 5mg for about $5 usd from Walmart. But locally Lazada is your best bet. Many people find a 3mg to be a good starting point. My mom only takes 1mg. I take 5mg.

Melatonin is not a good sleeping aid. It is best used for jet lag. I have 2 capsules saved for the next time I take a long haul flight to help reset my body clock by inducing the element which makes us sleepy (melatonin) earlier.

Here are 2 local herbal capsules available here in the green herbal shop in Chang Phuak Tops and Airport Plaza food court (might be called Royal Herbal shop?), the strip comes in a white box, just show the shop assistant. There are also little blue sachets of 2 herbal capsules available in pharmacies. Might be called Calmy?

You can also order herbal ones from iHerb. I rotate them as they all become less effective very quickly. Sometimes  a video like The Insomnia Key on YouTube is more effective.
