CHIANG MAI, 25th July 2018 (NNT) – The Huai Hong Krai Royal Development Study Center (HHK RDSC) is collaborating with the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT) to install radio telescopes.

Chief of Academic Affairs of HHK RDSC, Dr. Noppadon Kowsuvon said today that the center is known as a living natural museum, but has recently joined forces with NARIT to make headway in astronomy. As the conserved area is geographically peaceful and free from disturbance, it could readily house two radio telescopes given by foreign countries. China has given Thailand a 13-meter instrument, while Germany has provided the 40-meter telescope, which is the largest in Southeast Asia.

Dr. Noppadon confirmed that the construction will take place in the grounds of the center. The project is expected to need a total investment of 100 million baht and is due to be completed by 2021.

Then Dr. Noppadon underlined that the installation of radio telescopes will broaden the field of astronomy in Thailand. It will encourage scientists to explore various phenomena, such as plate movement, black holes, asteroids, and extraterrestrials, as well as exchange knowledge with international experts.
